Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Slow number six
After the excitement and the dramatic twists of The Trials of Death, I instantly grabbed the sixth instalment of the saga to see what happened.
Trials of Death was the most interesting book out of the first five and had the most dramatic of endings to it and it was a slight shame to see Shan change his writing style for the opening couple of chapters.

As with Lord Loss, Shan has chosen to write very brief sentences, with no real flow and excitement and was a disappointment considering the situation which was at stake and set a negative tone for the rest of the novel, which took a long while to get back into.

As Darren makes company with the wolves, the author breaks up the excitement from the previous book and ... Read More:

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Another great Darren Shan book - fast-paced and gory
I read the first five Darren Shan books as they came out in 2002 wen I was 12 years old and I really enjoyed them - in my opinion they are just as good as Harry Potter - but never got around to reading past the fifth book, even thought I had bought books six, seven and eight too.

A couple of days ago I was looking through my old books and saw this series and decided to give it a go - and I was very impressed! I am sixteen now so usually read adult horror (Dean Koontz, Stephen King etc) but I still enjoyed this book as much as I enjoyed Darren Shan books when I was 12 - they are fast paced and gory, and quite funny in places too.

This book continues with the cliffhanger ending where the previous book in the series - The ... Read More:

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - great horror
This book was brilliant from beginning to end and has everything a good read should have, action, emotion and a fantastic ending. I feel that in this book I learnt a lot about the characters that I never knew before and Darren Shan gave us a great insight in to his characters feelings and minds as well as balancing out all the emotional bits with a good fight and a lot of action. This book got me hungry for more and is probable the best in the Darren Shan saga.
P.S It beat HP, no contest

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - One of the best yet!
I have read all 10 of Darren Shan's books, and this by far is one of the best. It is a mixture of excitment, emotion and adventure.
It is an awesome end to the second trilogy in the saga. The only down point about this book is that it does not last very long, once you pick it up it is immpossible to put down again; i finished it in under two days!
