Editorial Review:

Amazon.co.uk Review:
Subtitled "Truly scrumptious treats for kids who love to bake", Mary Contini's aptly titled Easy Peasy Sweetie Pie will have adults fighting over this with their offspring. For every aspect appeals to both adults and kids, combining sophistication with fun, simplicity with imagination, and above all divine and decadent puds in all forms.

Not surprisingly, Contini hails from a family of eight children who lived above the parents' ice cream shop. As a director of Edinburgh's renowned Italian delicatessen Valvona & Crolla, Contini appreciates that sweet things demand the best ingredients, rather than a cheap dose of synthetics. As a result, parents can be reassured that these are quality sweeties, and some like "Grumpy Angel's Breakfast" (fruits, Greek yoghurt, oats, seeds and nuts) and "He's a Smoothie" (yoghurt, berries, honey and milk) are positively nutritious.

The full range of everything sweet is covered from cakes to puddings, though it's not immediately easy to grasp what every chapter covers. "This is Easy Peasy" suggests instant super-easy recipes, but in fact includes scones, popcorn and strudel. But the ace names (like "Flora's Flop Flops", a pancake mixture, and "Flip Flops" a variation) make browsing and choosing fun.

Easy Peasy Sweetie Pie provides an ideal shared activity, one to set them up with... or one to pinch for your own culinary skills.--Lorna V

Synopsis:
The easy peasy philosophy is based on the passionate belief that children can get enormous pleasure out of learning to cook real food, and the success of the first easy peasy book shows just how many people out there agree. Now "Easy Peasy Sweetie Pie" focuses on the most popular area of kids' cooking - baking - with over 80 completely new recipes to tempt kids into the kitchen. Mary Contini draws on her experience running teaching sessions for children of all ages to provide a book that shows children how to cook for real.Starting with basic techniques and preparation, she then moves into recipes that not only taste delicious, but are also enormous fun to cook, from breads and buns to pizzas, cakes and pastries. She never loses sight of the fact that it should be fun - giving helpful hints, humorous advice and taking a fuss-free approach that cannot fail to appeal. The recipes are suitable for children who are just starting to cook but can also be enjoyed by kids who are well into their teens. With the same colourful, snappy design as her first book, "Easy Peasy Sweetie Pie" will be a must-have for old and new fans alike.

From the Publisher:
The Easy Peasy approach is based on the belief that children can get enormous pleasure out of learning to cook real food – and its success proves how many people agree! Mary Contini, a partner in the famous Italian delicatessen in Edinburgh Valvona & Crolla, and journalist and cookery demonstrator for primary-school children Pru Irvine – both with children of their own – offer helpful, unpatronising hints, a fuss-free attitude, and a colourful, snappy layout. Easy Peasy was so successful that it has spawned two successors so far, with more to come – check out Easy Peasy Sweetie Pie and Easy Peasy All the Time.

‘If Easy Peasy doesn’t turn your kids on to the pleasure of cooking, nothing will’ Independent

‘Simple, delicious recipes that promote appreciation of good food without preaching’ Sainsbury’s Magazine

‘A great book for kids … will get any child into the kitchen’ Family Circle

‘The design is eye-catching, the tone enthusiastic, the jokes terrible. Just the thing for any child who shows even the remotest interest in cooking’ Nigel Slater in the Observer

Book Information :
Dear Grown Ups,

Do you remember the first time you made fairy cakes? Or perhaps you have never baked a cake in your life, but wish that you could. Cooking is a life skill--and children love it. You'll be absolutely amazed at how quickly they learn, and how skilled they become. There are recipes here for everything from Giant Chocolate Cookies and Honey Bunnies, to Trifle Towers and fruity Pizzas. There are some tricks with baking that they need to know, so instructions--and photographs--for things like beating cake mixture and making pastry are included, together with lots of great tips on how to do all the basics.

But what about their diet, you may say? I believe in kids having a balanced, nutritious diet but we all need treats now and then, so lets get them cooking their own treats and learning what goes into them. They may be making biscuits and cakes, but I think their baking and making delicious drinks and treats can be a great incentive to get kids into the kitchen. After that, it will be a natural progression to cooking other things. And if they make a dreadful mess, who cares! That's what soap and water are for...
