Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - not as good as what went before.
Considering what is comming in the next book i did expect alot more from this book , the sea battles seem to be getting shorter and considering what i have read in the previus books its just not up to kents standard.

The writing is starting to get too much into the details of the various personalities. Once again poor Thomas is all over the map of his feelings towards richard and Kate. The actions are over before you can get interested in the battles. The battles details are so sparse that it's hard to follow. Why is Adam more destroyed over love than the husband. Val has had much more personality and easier to like in earlier books. Doesn't anyone ever get to be happy in this series?

I am an ardent Bolitho fan! I've read all of the 'Bolitho' series, following his career from midshipman on, and this is about the best ever book. It maintains the masterly weaving of history and fiction that is a trademark of Alexander Kent.
