Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - The Queens Man
An excellent read and as usual with Sharon Penman sticks close to actual events, even though this is a work of fiction. The main carictures blend in well with the actual events and you could imagine them as part of our actual history.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Penman hits gold again!
I read Penman's The Sunne in Splendour recently and absolutely loved it, so I decided I would like to read more of her work. The Queen's Man is the first book to feature Justin de Quincy the illegitimate son of a Bishop in the England of Richard I - who has been off fighting in the Crusades. De Quincy unexpectedly finds himself embroiled in a Medieval Murder mystery as Queen's Man to Queen Eleanor of Aquitaine. The mystery in itself is excellent, with a nice twist at the end, historical background is believable and Penman provides us with a wonderful supporting cast from Claudine the court lady to Luke to Under-Sheriff and Nell, who keeps the Gracechurch Street Inn. Excellent on all counts, I will definitely be reading more of Penman, starting ... Read More:

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Good Beginning
What promises to be a new series of Medieval murder mysteries gets off to a flying start with a likable hero in Justin de Quincy, the son of a bishop. Justin stumbles across a botched ambush and discovers that the victim is carrying a letter for Queen Eleanor. The letter contains information regarding the whereabouts of the missing King Richard the Lionheart and Justin is commmissioned by the Queen to investigate the circumstances regarding the ambush. Could Richard's enemies be aware of the letter's contents or did the letter-bearer's family have a more pressing motive for his death ? Is John, Richard's ambitious, wily brother behind the plot ? Justin must use all his wits to search for the truth.
In addition, Justin must decide who he can trust. ... Read More:

Rating: 1 out of 5 stars - Badly written drivel
I bought this book from a recommendation but I was severely disappointed. The characterisations are weak and the writing so appalling that I tried three times to read this book before giving up at chapter 4.
I will never read another of her books and urge you to try another writer, like Dorothy Dunnet,if you want historical fiction that is readably written
