Average Rating: out of 5 stars

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - From the ex prime Reviewer of Booknet.org.uk
This Book is an Exelent example of this type of writing, as a Brit, Who has folowed Military Fiction for a LONG time now, I find it great to experience Authors who do not take themselves, or indeed the story tooo seriously!!!, and the inventive use of German, in this Particular book was certainly good for more than a few Laughs, especially as I noticed that the Characters were Very like the names applied to them!!!, which was just cool!!!, I am in total agreement with the american reviewer Clark, I seriously reccomend this book and indeed the WHOLE series!!!!!!, this deserves a hearty WELL DONE to the authors!!!!!

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Good story line, exellent action, and plenty of suprises.
This book was a real thriller to me. The descriptions in the battle scenes took me completely into the book itself. It was like I was there with them. The story line is great, and by that I mean that is has more than just military blood and gore. It goes into the lives of the characters as well as the battle parts. In my opinion I could never put this book down, and I got a great deal of suprise, humor, and sorrow out of it. I think it's a real winner!

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Lots of fun and action.
This is some of the best military science-fiction I have ever read, from guys who know their stuff, because they have been there. If you compare their stuff with Heinlein (one of my favorite authors), you will notice a better quality of realism as far as military matters are concerned, especially from the point of view of the ground-pounder. This is because Heinlein never served in combat (through no fault of his own).

Some speakers of German might not like the use of German words in this book. I had a problem with it, as I do speak and read German. I couldn't help laughing at some of the names, and they can detract from the enjoyment to a certain extent, for a German speaker. The country of Arschland, for example, translates ... Read More:

Rating: 2 out of 5 stars - they should have consulted a german dictionary
In this book the authors used a lot of German words and phrases because the culture they chose for the planet of "Wanderjahr" is descended from German culture, what they tell us repeatedly. But if you actually understand the words used, you might be shocked or amused about the way the authors use them. For example the name of the county, where most of the action takes place, "Arschland" consist of Arsch and land. Land is just the same as in English, but the other word is a rather strong German insult. There is also an ambassador "Misthaufen", which can be translated as dung-pile. There are many other cases which make the book almost unreadable to people who know German language. The story itself is rather simple, the Marines win the day, as always, ... Read More:

Rating: 2 out of 5 stars - if you speak German, don't read this...
Mmh. Everyone else rated this book high. I cannot do the same. The authors tried to integrate German language and culture into their story, but failed miserably. I was actually shocked when I had to read some of their "German" words and phrases. Some examples shall be given here: The county Arschland (If you know that "Arsch" actually is a strong insult in German, you find it hard to accept, that someone is actually called Arschmann, or calls his domain Arschland); Ambassador Misthaufen would be called heap of manure in English; Grafshaftsbezirk <> Grafschaftsbezirk; Wanderjahrer is never ever a German name, they invented it solely to call the planet Wanderjahr; many supposedly German words do not even exist or are totally false, like grospalms, hochbaums ...
