- Great First Book
While not nearly as good as her Urban Shaman series, Heart of Stone is still an excellent read. Especially since this was actually CE Murphy's first book. She's definitely improved over the years.

There were places where the story dragged a bit. I think it was actually a longer book than it needed to be, but it did take some time to sort of set up this alternate reality in which Vampires, Gargoyles, Selkies and other mythical creatures are real and living in New York City (hmmm... not that surprising, really).

If you enjoy mystery mixed with mythology, you will LOVE this series. If you're into Laurell K Hamilton and that sort of story, you will definitely enjoy this series. I've just ordered book number two. ... Read More:

- a sensually Amazing adventure
This book held me captive !! The main characters are compelling and make you wish all these goings on were inherently possible!! I am so greatful for a book that gives us mythical creatures in a modern world , without being condescending, or making us feel awkward about developing REAL feelings about beings in this tale!! I loved this novel, it was a fast-paced easy read that kept me in its' grips until the last word!! An old world fairytale set in today's modern scope!

- Intriguing Start to Urban Fantasy Trilogy
Heart of Stone is the first book in the Negotiator Trilogy by C.E.Murphy. An urban fantasy, it begins with legal aid lawyer, Margrit Knight speaking to mystery man, (Alban), late at night in Central Park. She later learns a murder took place in the park, and he's the main suspect. Problem is, he's a gargoyle and can't afford to be questioned by the authorities. He needs Margrit's help, and before long she's drawn into the world of the Old Races, negotiating with dragons, bargaining with vampires, and trying to prove Alban's innocence.
