Editorial Review:

Amazon.co.uk Review:
Delia's How to Cook Book Two continues Delia's simple-to-follow teaching course for people of all ages and abilities. With her unique powers of communication, Delia removes the fear and mystique from cooking both the simplest and the more advanced dishes. For those who have mastered the techniques--and for those who are already accomplished cooks--How to Cook Book Two contains a collection of 120 new recipes from "Roast Lamb in a Shrewsbury Sauce" to "Fresh Pecan and Almond Crumble". How to Cook Book Two once again features stunning food photography from Miki Duisterhof.

Book Jacket:
In part two of How to Cook, Delia takes us forward from the staples of cooking to the fundamentals of dealing with fish, meat and poultry, fruit and vegetables. As in Book One, the aim is the same--to rediscover the simple pleasure of food and to guide beginners through many of the basic techniques that will serve them for a lifetime of cooking.

Here, with detailed photographs, you'll find clear and simple explanations of jointing and carving chicken, boning fish, melting chocolate, using leaf gelatine, making a vinaigrette, even serving a mango. Guidelines for roasting, grilling, frying and other methods of cooking are set out in Delia's comprehensive and accessible style, along with a year-round calendar of vegetables and an imaginative introduction to cooking with fruit, cheese and the bewildering array of new dairy products now on the shelves.

How To Cook Book Two begins with an invaluable inventory of the serious cook's larder for the 21st century, identifying the store cupboard ingredients, spices and flavourings that will transform your cooking for minimal cost. Over 100 new recipes, ranging from soups and stews to salads and sweets, demonstrate how to put the techniques into practice and to make the most of good ingredients. This book will take the beginner, inspired by Book One, to new heights, as well as offering new ideas for even the most accomplished cook.

Synopsis:
The second of two books in which Delia Smith presents a straightforward cookery course for people of all ages and abilities. It looks at cooking with meat, fish, vegetables, fruit, chocolate and dairy products, and contains 120 recipes.

From the Author:
‘We are approaching the end of the century and for a quarter of that century I’ve been presenting cookery on television, and writing for longer. Where have we got to in that time? Food is available from round the world, we have any number of take-aways and ready meals, but we’ve lost something in the process: a reverence for food in its simplest forms and the joys and pleasure it can bring. This series recaptures some of that respect for our staple ingredients and regains some of the joy that may have been lost.’

About the Author:
Delia Smith is Britain's best-selling cookery author, whose cookery books have sold over 10 million copies. From her first job as a cookery writer (in 1969 for the Daily Mirror’s new magazine), Delia went on to publish her first book, How to Cheat at Cooking in 1971 and presented her first series (for BBC1) entitled Family Fare in 1973. Delia has published 24 titles in total – her How to Cook series being the most recent and a phenomenal success. The key to Delia’s attraction is that all of her recipes work; a Delia recipe will never let you down.

Delia has also worked for the last eight years as a behind-the-scenes consultant for Sainsbury’s and is the consultant editor of Sainsbury’s: The Magazine.

As well as cooking, Delia’s other passions include cats and football (she is a keen Norwich City supporter and has been a director of the club since 1996). She is married to the writer and editor Michael Wynn Jones and they live in Suffolk.

Average Rating: out of 5 stars

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Better for those who aren't absolute beginners
Excellent recipe ideas, though it's hard to get hold of some of the ingredients here in Japan (lamb, whole poultry, etc.) The char-grilled tuna and the shepherd's pie are my husband's favourites!

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - 27 year old son at first a little insulted!
At first our 27 year old son was not too happy to receive Books 1 and 2 for his birthday present but is now fully won over. Two reasons for the conversion are the many tips that you normally learn by trial and error and because all the recipes work.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Delia has done it again!
A great book, full of interesting but easy to follow recipes - I've not had one fail yet. Some old favourite dishes, and some more unusual. Great stuff, but its not doing my diet any good!

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - A must for all beginner and not-so-beginner cooks
These books should be presented to every student on graduation day so that at long last they can stop eating baked beans and pot noodles every day. Delia takes you through the learning to cook process easily and interestingly. I used both books to make the 'perfect' roast dinner and it was absolutely fab. The Shepherds Pie was delicious, I made enough for 4 and my boyfriend ate for 3! A must for all beginnner and not so beginner cooks.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Excellent Cook book
I was very pleased to receive this book for Christmas. To me, Delia's a hero, I just love her recipes - they're are not necessarily for people wanting to diet, but they are simple and very delicious. This book makes me feel nostalgic, because before I left home, my mum used to cook recipes from her previous books. I will now continue to cook her recipes for my children.

P.S the shepherd's pie is a firm favourite in my family - it is better than any supermarket bought one.
