- I life saver for American Literature students
This book proved to be invaluable to me when studying for my American Literature finals. There is comprehensive coverage of major literary movements and the authors involved in them. The book is easy to use and enjoyable to read, a must for Literature students or anyone intertested in American literature.

- An absolute "must have" for American Literature students.
For University students of American Literature I literally cannot recommend this book highly enough. Though its huge thickness (899 pages!) may be slightly off-putting to some, this reference guide contains almost everything you will ever need to know, both about the cultural context in which literary movements developed, and in terms of in depth information about individual authors. (Just remember to read it before your seminars - you'll need muscle to take it with you).

Comprehensive in it's coverage, interesting and written in an engaging style, this is not the kind of history guide which looks dusty and tired before it's read. The only disadvantage I can find to comment upon is that though chapters are short and managable, ... Read More:
