This book offers in-depth coverage of the main sites along with clearly written practical information on everything else travellers need to know about to help them make the most of their visit: historical, cultural, and political notes, a helpful language section, a detailed glossary, maps, photos, and accommodation and restaurant listings. Be sure to read the book before you go, and bring it along with you.

The format of this book was a little confusing. It opens with a general section on regional history, culture and general information. The remainder of the book is divided between the two countries. Each country's section opens with a description of its history and culture, which is confusing - I couldn't remember whether the vital piece of information I wanted was in the Jordan section or the general section. There is a HUGE amount of information here - mainly aimed at the independent tourist - but there semed to be lots of useful info missing too. The section on Petra was invaluable, but I could find nothing at all about Little Petra. Lonely Planet might consider granting each country its own volume; each could then be extended to fill ...
