- A decent look at the Battle of Normandy but flawed
`Victory in the West' is the British official campaign history for the fighting in Europe during 1944-1945.
Volume I: The Battle of Normandy takes the reader through the planning and build up to the invasion, the invasion itself, the various operations to capture Caen and subsequent breakout and advance across France, the assassination attempt on Hitler and its effect on the campaign. The volume does not solely focus on the Anglo-Canadian forces, although they are the primary focus of the book, and discusses the progress made by the Americans during the battle. The volume ends just before Operation Market Garden were the second volume, The Defeat of Germany, picks up.
