"The City" provides reliable, relevant and up-to-date coverage of what goes on in the City, its global importance and its role as a the leading financial centre in Europe. Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - You should buy
I bought this book and All You Need to Know About the City (All You Need to Know Guides) by Christopher Stoakes, and I would say the latter is better for beginners and the former moves the pace up a gear or two.

The City:A Guide to London's Global Financial Centre (Economist)covers all the key historical financial events, analyses them, and explains why the happened clearly and concise. It's well worth reading, but I would advise people to read All You Need to Know About the City (All You Need to Know Guides)first. Hope this helps.
