Editorial Review:

Amazon.co.uk Review:
A rousing ensemble recording, A Todo Cuba Le Gusta features a band made up largely of Cuban music elders, including Manuel Puntillita Licea, Pio Levya and Ruben Gonzalez. As a reflection of their collective experience playing multiple percussion instruments and brightly lit trumpets, the Afro-Cuban All Stars churn with high drama, even while playing music that's paced with extravagant patience. The time signatures overlay and run against each other in a casual trot while the trumpets blare with fat fullness. Add to that the impassioned group vocals and you've got a hard-to-beat Cuban traditional music session. --Andrew Bartlett

From Amazon.com:
Recorded as part of the World Circuit trip to Cuba that produced Buena Vista Social Club, this disc essentially picks up the same sound, using some of Cuba's top musicians (hardly a one under 60), including Ruben Gonzalez, who'd later do his own record. Afro Cuban is the name, and Afro-Cuban is the style. "Fiesta de la Rumba" sparkles with polyrhythms that have crossed the Atlantic more times than anyone can count, and everything is informed by rhythm. Everyone is perfect, playing real Cuban jazz, and delighting in every single note, making it an album impossible not to love. --Chris Nickson

Customer Reviews
Average Rating: out of 5 stars

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Love it!
As other reviewers have put it, simply fantastic, energetic music!! It also corresponds well to the Buena Vista 2007 tour sound, which has gone more to the brassy band sound. Essential, 'nuff said?

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Stylish, coherent, and, simply put, perfect.
A perfect album. Outclasses the more legendary Buena Vista Social Club in many respects: it's much more coherent, focusing primarily on big band styles such as guaracha and son montuno rather than spanning a diversity of Cuban genres; it features a better choice of singers for the task at hand, with Pío Leyva, Raúl Planas, Félix Valoy, Puntillita, and Maceo in as good a form as ever; and the sense of the recording is much more grand. If Buena Vista Social Club's first couple of pieces left you thirsty for more, this is it. Perfectly planned vocal improvisations intertwine with instrumental solos of masters such as Richard Egües, Rubén González, and Guajiro Mirabal, with Angá Diaz' energy added in for good measure. Cachaíto adds the necessary ... Read More:

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Food for your Soul !
This definitely is an album that is full of life! If you love music this indeed needs to be in your collection of albums. You can hear the warmth of Cuba in the sounds and rhythms of the tracks.

If you aren't having the brightest of days it will lift you out of any kind of 'blue' mood you might be in.

Buyt it!

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - For only two groups of listeners............................
Honestly, I can think only of two groups of people who will enjoy this recording, and if you're in either group, I urge you to order it immediately if not sooner.
If you're one of those totally or mostly unfamiliar with Cuban jazz, you'll love this. It's a celebration of life, full of good humor and vigor. The excitement of the music is bound to get to you, and you'll wonder why you've never given it a chance before.

On the other hand, you might be quite familiar with this sound, with the vocals of veterans such as Ibrahim Ferrer, Pio Leyva, Manuel 'Puntillita Licea, Raul Planas, Jose Antonio 'Maceo' Rodriguez, and Felix Valoy, and with the full sound of trumpets, teombones, enhanced by sax, flute, and piano. If so, you'll find this the ... Read More:

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - This album will convert anyone
I challenge anyone not to become a Cuban music convert after buying this album. It's been playing continuously at home and work since I got it 5 days ago. The rythms are are simple enough to get your foot tapping immediately yet with such layers of detail that you'll never tire of them.
