Fusing the agitated rhythms of the traditional Brazilian samba he grew up listening to with the American jazz style exploited by Stan Getz and Charlie Byrd during the 1950s, Antonio Carlos Jobim hit upon a new musical form that became known as bossa nova. Wave, an instrumental collaboration on which Jobim displays his mastery of the piano, guitar and harpsichord, flutters along at an easy pace. With telling contributions from Urbie Green, Ron Carter and Claus Ogerman the melodies here are portraits of leisurely nights in Rio. The melancholic inflection of "Lamento" and confident stride of the title track are especially striking amongst the assorted lounge-room harmonies composed by the genius who brought us "The Girl from Ipanema". --George Lees

this is a fine album of superbly performed music. very simple, delicate, cool and quality. music doesn't get much better than this!
