Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - A Lesson in guitar playing.
Bloody hell! This guy can play guitar. I'm well aware of many fantastic guitarists (Clapton, Hendrix, May, Gilmour, Marr, Satriani, etc), but Steve Vai is something else. Never have I heard such speed, precision and clarity.
'Juice' is just sublime, and 'Tender surrender'? Beautiful. 'Ya-Yo Gakk' features a riff based around his infant son's baby speak, and 'Bad Horsie' shows Vai playing his guitar like a furious Mustang.

If you want to hear a guitar talk, then check out Steve Vai, who, in this humble reviewers opinion, is absolutely second to none. (Let the arguments commence!).

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Brillience
Vai is the most masterful guitarist in the world. This may only be my opinion but it is backed up brilliently by the tracks on this album. With Juice and Tender surrender standouts amongst the rest. His technical ability is second to none. Anyone can appreciate this album whether theylike instrumental guitar or not. From Bad horsie with its unbelievable whammy bar pyrotechnics and ya-yo gakk with vocals from his very own (and young!) child! excellent!

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Vai gem
In 1995, Steve Vai was working on his next opus, the now highly-regarded Fire Garden. Taking a break from it's high production demands, Vai took 4 weeks off and recorded a back-to-basics guitar album with a slight grunge feel to it.

Of course, as with Steve Vai, it is still far from basic. Bad Horsie is a great stomping opener for the album, a chugging riff powering the song along before leaping into the fray with a whimpering horse guitar solo. It has to heard to be believed!
Die to Live is regarded by many as an album high-light, with its fantastic loose sound. Juice is a fantastic all-out rocker, as indeed the majority of the album is. The true highlight for many though is the closing track, Vai's bluesey emotionally charged ... Read More:

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - No Nonsense Guitar!
This EP wa release to keep Vai fans happy whilst they were waiting for the next album proper to come out (Fire Garden). It is a back to basics EP with a sinlge guitar playing with a full band. When I say basic, it's still a magical EP with some amazing guitar work. "Bad Horsie" was indeed used in part for Crossroads, and it's a chugging song with lots of slide playing that suggests a duel between and Iron Horse and a Steam Locomotive! "Die to Live" is another highlight with it's thoughful question/answer structure and beautiful and mysterious solo. how does Steve make an A chord sound so good? Another highlight is "The Boy from Seattle" with it's complex chord play. Tender Surrender finishes off the EP with some lovely, yearning guitar. ... Read More:

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Typical Vai
My Favourite has to be Bad Horsie. It reminds me of the film Crossroads where Steve first starts the guitar duel, very ballsy, very good. Ya Yo Gak is an amusing song involving his son talking and steve copying on the guitar, very cleverly done. Tender Surrender is the 'For The Love Of God' of the album, a very good, tasteful piece. Overall this is a very good album from Steve although a bit short in content, well worth buying.
