In its day, V was a monumental event that for one generation remains a pop culture touchstone. Close Encounters of the Third Kind may have reassured us that perhaps we have nothing to fear from alien visitors and E.T. introduced us to a benign extra-terrestrial who only wanted to go home, but Kenneth Johnson's 1983 television miniseries knew better. Visitors who claim to come in peace are revealed to be nothing but reptilians in human skin bent on human conversion and conquest. As in the dark days of Fascism, some collaborate with the enemy; others form the Resistance.

At the time, the epic scale of this production was unprecedented. The special effects are still awesome: those 50 mother ships that hover over the Earth's major cities anticipate Independence Day by more than a decade. Less so is the often-hackneyed dialogue. But thanks to their signature roles, the mostly no-star cast (most of whom would be reunited for a sequel and subsequent television series) have ensured themselves standing invitations to sci-fi conventions for the rest of their lives. Marc "Beastmaster" Singer is cameraman-turned-freedom fighter Mike Donovan; Julie Parrish is a medical student-turned-Resistance leader; Richard Herd is the Visitor's Supreme Commander ("Call me John"); Jane Bradler is Diana, the ravishing, but ruthlessly ambitious Visitor Science Officer; Leonardo Cimino lends dignity to his heavy-handed allegorical role as a Holocaust survivor. - V is for victory
As a 13 year old kid in 1983, the original V miniseries was huge; it seems like all of my friends watched it and talked about it. Certain memories of this small screen epic have stayed with me for many years, and I was overjoyed when the miniseries was released on VHS. What kid could forget the images of the giant motherships hovering above our major cities, the first glimpse at the true, reptilian faces of the visitors underneath their human masks, and--above all else--the horrible yet incredibly cool sight of watching the visitors eating live rats and other small creatures? - I lost my last one!
Get this to complete your collection. I have the complete set - unfortunately I lost this particular one when I moved.

You will need all of them so that the story make sense.

If your not a fan I suggest that you purchase the V the movie (parts 1&2) before you start on the mini-series.

Don't forget this is early 80's and some parts are more comical than frightning but it's still a good set.

3stars because you have to have the collection and enjoy the movie/mini-series.

- Brilliant !!! Probably the best Sci-Fi ever produced EVER
"V" Cronicles the progress of the inhabitants of this planet when confronted by Alien invaders who look like us, but are really lizards. The exploits of the resitance, headed by Marc Singer and the Aliens, whose arch fiend is the delightful (I would spend a night with her) Jane Badler are expertly shot and give an interesting view of how Mankind might cope against superior technology and man-eating intelligent Lizards who want to strip the Earth of its resources and take the population for food.

This is a brilliant series that ought to be on DVD and available for all to experience, it takes Sci-Fi to a level never before achieved and without the reliance on stupid or excessive stunts and gives the viewer something to think on.

- V!!!
This is V at it's best. The latter part of the first series was when V was really hotting up with all out war just breaking out over L.A. After the first series it went rubbish so this is to be enjoyed to the maximum. Look out for the parachute sequence. Yeah!

- The End of the Visitors?
This is the third part of the V movie. Action-packed the whole way through this will definitely keep you on the edge of your seat. The Resistance have found a way to fight back but the Visitors have one more trick up their sleeves. As this film ends we can see no way for it to continue but as a series was written after this it picks up brilliantly from where the original films left off. A must see for all sci-fi fans!
