Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - bless sid james
sid james is the kind of person who you wish was still here today, there was just something about the man which makes you smile, the face and the yak yak laugh was made for fish & chips style british comedy. bless this house the movie is still a good laugh, sid plays "sidney abbott" the head of the abbott household, his main problems in life revolve around his two kids mike & sally (robin askwith & judy geeson) who constantly cause him loads of trouble. there's lots of funny moments in the movie,i like the scene where sid has a cake fight with his snooty neighbour (played by the great "terry scott") other good performances come from peter butterworth, june whitfield and patsy rowlands. it's a good spin off from the still funny bless this ... Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - If you want an example of British Comedy, get this!
This film was on TV during Christmas 1990, and I didn't intend to watch it, but I saw the first five minutes, and was hooked. I liked it so much that every time I went to any shop selling videos/dvd's, I would hunt for it. Thankfully Amazon saved me hunting any further.

This film lacks the subtlty of modern films, or the in-your-face crudeness of American Pie etc, but you do get a load of classic Carry-On style moments. Sid James is the funniest I've ever seen him, and playing against Terry Scott's straight-laces middle class role, he shines even brighter. Robin Askwith also makes a complete fool of himself on more than one occassion.

All the way through writing this review I've been smiling to myself as I recount some of the ... Read More:

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Going Back To Old Triumphs
As fans of the Carry-On films will know, British comedy of the 60s and 70s was extremely, extremely popular. 'Bless This House' is a classic example of a tradition not based on large budgets and extravagant settings, but on roar, honest and even predictable humor. Majoritively, people will find the comedy of 'Bless this House' to be innuendo after innuendo of cheek and naughtiness. Well, that is what made this type of film so funny and popular, as this type of behaviour was common of the time.

The most lovable rogue of the time, the legendary Sid james, leads his family through the hilarious highs and lows of redecorating, brewing your own spirits, and trying to get your son married to the girl next door. Boasting a stellar cast of the time ... Read More:

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Sid James - a comic genius
I'm too young to remember this series (or this film) when it was first around, and yes the 'jokes' are a little cheesy and of course (being the 70s) the fashions are awful - but hey - it stars Sid James and he was a genius so that's all there is to say.
