Editorial Review:

Amazon.co.uk Review:
A very definite sequel to 1997's fabulous Ladies and Gentlemen We Are Floating in Space rather than a brave new dawn, Let It All Come Down finds Pierce dropping the indie ballast--his band, who went on to form the mediocre Lupine Howl--and embellishing on the orchestral trappings of the Live at The Royal Albert Hall LP with a 100-piece choir and a selection of nobly beautiful gospel songs. It's tempting to see each new Spiritualized album as the latest instalment of "The Continuing Narcotic Adventures of Jason Pierce", but as ever, the man that is Spiritualized remains tight-lipped about the themes--heartbreak, redemption, the existence of a Merciful God and the importance of a well-stocked medicine cabinet--that dominate his work. He hasn't cleaned up his act, though: "The Straight and Narrow" is an elegiac hymn to addiction with Pierce singing "The trouble with the straight and the narrow is that it's so thin / I keep sliding off to the side". It's the hell-for-leather harmonica squeal of "Twelve Steps", though, that proves he's still having fun: "The only time I'm drink and drug free / Is when I don't have to pay for what I need," drawls Pierce, bright-eyed at the teetering peak of his chemical rollercoaster. Stay around for the ride. --Louis Pattison

Average Rating: out of 5 stars

Rating: 1 out of 5 stars - Orchestral Manouevres in the Dull
No amount of over-orchestration can disguise the fact that these are dull songs by somebody who can't sing.

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - More rhythm and a little less blues please
The appeal of "Ladies and Gentlemen...." was immediate with its layered sound and hypnotic melody, from track one onwards. This latest release has built on the layering, has added more blues, but unfortunately lost some of the melodic and rhythmic variety. Too much reliance on the 6/8 time trademark and not enough of the visceral freaking out that lends a subversive sense of instability to their finest work. The new record is growing on me, but there is a niggling lurking concern that we may be drifting into Deep Purple's "Concerto for Group and Orchestra" territory. Sadly, Mr Spaceman, the spectre of the worst excesses of progressive rock is always ready to pounce on the musically ambitious.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - SPIRITUALIZED WARM UP
Like all Spiritualized releases the latest LP is not perfect. I have been skipping some of the tracks. The rest are awesome. The recordings are restrained compared to live performances and I think this is very much for the better. In my opinion the more reflective songs lose their power when performed live and become diluted due to the band's habit of extending everything with long passages of freak-out noise. "Don't just do something" , "The straight and the narrow" , "Stop your crying" and "Lord can you hear me ?" are peerless. I'd buy the CD just to hear one of these songs. Nothing I have heard moves me more than this current batch at present apart from Arvo Part's "Alina". I think that's praise enough.

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - a deep, deep recording that will remain timeless
Perhaps a little predictable by normal standards, yet still, is there other contemporary artists withe the ambition and vision of Jason Pierce. Serious music for serious times...

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - oh Lord can you hear him... the lord does!
For what J Spaceman has made is enough to move the heavens and make all aware of this beautiful overpowering music. I have found not one review by the press to truly sum up this record. Most reviews have totally missed the point of this awe - inspiring peice of heartbreak, humour, and redemption. If i've not made my self clear... to sum up, this is one of THOSE records, you know, like Dions Born to Be With You or Princes purple rain or Abbey Road or Nilssons Aerial Pandemodium ballet or whats goin on'. All i am saying is....

Give Pierce a Chance!
