Editorial Review:

Amazon.co.uk Review:
It's been three long years but finally Lara's back in Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Angel of Darkness with all the puzzle-solving, platform-clambering action you'd expect. The game's intro sees Lara being hunted down by Parisian gendarmes and accused of a crime she didn't commit. This forces her, once she escapes their initial attacks, to uncover the mystery of the evil Nephilim.

The first thing you'll notice when playing The Angel of Darkness is that they've changed the control system to try and make it fully analogue--but it hasn't really worked and lining up for jumps in particular is now infuriatingly difficult. You do get used to it but there's going to be a goodly proportion of fans who'll just immediately give up in disgust. This is a shame because apart from that one (admittedly fairly major) blunder the game is pretty good and far more inventive than any previous Tomb Raider game. For starters there's no set path through the game, but plenty of minor and major plot branching: you now have the chance to talk to people and further affect the route the game's plot takes.

You can also try out a new stealth mode, hand-to-hand fighting, a rather spurious RPG-style attribute upgrade system and even play as a new male character. The Angel of Darkness isn't even close to perfect but apart from the appalling new control system it's mostly all good news and once you start clambering over and under all the new buildings and tombs you'll start to remember just why this series has remained so popular over the years. --David Jenkins

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - People are right, its not THAT bad.. just not great
Well I got this game second hand about 2 Christmas's ago off my brother, expecting a really good game. It is good.. but before then I wasn't really a Tomb Raider freak like now. Anyway it has good and bad points.. I'll start on the good.

Beautiful theme tune, I liked the soundtrack
Kurtis, I thought he added a new flavour to the game
Graphics are really good compared to Chronicles and the such
Range of items to pick up

Now here are the bad points

Dodgy camera angles, frustrated me
Only analog control, and I loved the old control system
She was more like an Olympic Gymnast in her last installments, now she is built like a tank and can't jump anywhere without falling to her death ... Read More:

Rating: 1 out of 5 stars - A hideous embarrassment to the franchise.
So wrong in so many ways.
The development of this, Lara's first PS2 outing, was a history of setbacks and postponed release dates.
This was apparently due to a 'revolutionary' new control system thatnever worked and was ultimately replaced at the last minute.
The graphics are pretty enough, but not the next-gen leap from 'The Last Revelation' that everyone expected.
The story is muddled and chooses to forsake Lara's history by deliberately adding an annoying and unnecessary new side-kick 'Kurtis'.
There's also a 'sneak round corner' mode too, making me feel they had a last minute "let's rip 'Metal Gear Solid' off" moment in the later development meetings.
What kills the game stone dead, however, is the in-game ... Read More:

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Lara croft is back
There has been a lot of negativity surrounding this game, yet it is without a doubt one of the best outings for lara croft yet. The game is much bigger in comparison with the others and boasts awesome graphics. Although the controls are different to previous games and take a while to get used to they are smooth. The hall of seasons was my particular favorite level of this game and the storyline I felt was fantastic. If you are a long time fan of the whole Lara Croft/ Tomb raider series, this is one installment not to be missed.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Once you get used to it...it's great!
My husband bought me this for one of our wedding anniversaries, and I was so excited! But I put it on and realised with horror that the makers had completely changed the controls, and it was almost impossible to move Lara around and get her from place to place, never mind perform the acrobatics she's used to! Plus, she didn't have her unlimited pistols, she couldn't run, jump and grab, and she could only hang on to buildings etc. with a timer!

I put the game away in disgust and wrote some really bad reviews (which I'm now ashamed of!). But my sister, another Lara fan, encouraged me to stick with it as I would get used to the controls. I decided to, more for the reason that my husband had bought it for me as a gift...

How pleased ... Read More:

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - Dissapointing.... but not without it's charm...
Although they obviously had trouble moving lara from PS1 to PS2, I deffinitely have a big soft spot for this game. Mainly because the plotline is so much darker and more fascinating than any Tomb Raider game so far! Yes, Lara moves like she is made of bricks, and YES, there are many glitches here and there... but as long as you save regularly and remember that she didn't exactly move wonderfully in the original games, you can easily entertain yourself with the new, wonderfully gothic lara.

I was, however, slightly sceptical about the introduction of the new playable character, Kurtis Trent. Although he is a wonderfully mysterious character to have in the story, i just wish he moved faster! It becomes slightly tedious when playing kurtis' level ... Read More:
