Any doubts concerning the longevity of Will Young's career post Pop Idol can be put to rest with one listen of Friday's Child. His first release, From Now On, was a mismatch of covers and styles--hardly a good vehicle for the singer who had to go through so much for the privilege. Now Young has taken what he's good at (soulful voice, housewife appeal) and fed it through some well considered songs and rich production.

"Leave Right Now" is pure, premium white soul-pop--superbly written, expertly delivered, with a refrain that is as catchy as any of the disposable pop currently being consumed by the teenage masses. "Love the One You're With" is an acoustic-based, gospel-tinged mélange of "mmms" and "ooohs" and almost tips the title track from being the best song on the album. "Friday's Child" is an epic, stirring, string-based cut that has the luxurious feeling of a sunny afternoon spent reading the papers and wandering from pub to pub.

Friday's Child is a timely reminder that pop isn't just for pre-pubescents. There are no half-baked album fillers here (hello Rachel Stephens), no D-side rejects and definitely no Stevie Wonder covers. Will Young has produced an album of substance and for that we should all be grateful. --Cortman Virtue

will young is fab his voice is soulfull and unique like amy winehouse i like singers that are different and distinctive amy winehouse,karen carpenter,freddie mercury etc this a very good pop easy listening album he deserved to win pop idol im 21 and was young when he won i wanted him too win right through pop idol i could see he had a voice that could grown and be better he is still young now and his voice is cool gareth gates who? LOL gareth relied on looks more then talent his voice was wimpy my opinion though i think will will be around for years to come his new album let it go should be good changes is a grower the new song!! its took me anges to review this album i have loads of music and lots of taste in music getting round to reviewing ... - A pleasure to listen too
Every now and then a new talent arises that you know will be around a long time. Will Young is that talent and this album is the defining moment when he uncovered the style of music that he would re-define.
Its a marvellous album of great R&B songs, all sung with a hugely unique voice that has matured dramatically since his talent show win a few years earlier.
The title track Fridays Child is simply a plessure to listen too. I have played it to death in my car CD. All the tracks are excellent but Leave Right Now and Love is a matter of Distance really show the quality of Will's voice.
The album is quite brilliant.

Will Young's first album was a bit of a ragbag collection. Friday's Child finds him really achieving his own sound and identity. There is definitely an R and B tinge all the way through and, while the sound is very commercial, Will's personality wins through along with his quite unique voice. The stand out track is the full-length title track, nine minutes plus of silky soul. Dance The Night Away is also great- an exercise in slick funkiness.
Will Young is more than a TV talent show winner. He is here for the long haul.

Will Young is a genius and that's all that has to be said. He has a sensational voice which puts the otehr reality TV 'stars' to shame. I mean to list a few, Michelle McManus, Alex Parks, David Sneddon, etc etc. To link Will with the same show that crowned Michelle McManus as its winner is ludricrous but the less said about that the better.

Well, this album proves that Will has amazing talent, vocal range, and personality! He's also proved that he has staying power, as this is his 2nd album, and all his single releases have been successful. So he can stick 2 fingers in the air at all the doubters, and enjoy what is turning out be be a very exciting career. About the album...its bursting with Will's enthusiasm, and creativity! Every song will stir emotions, with feel good tunes 'love the one your with' and also more thoughtful deep songs, such as 'Very Kind.' I've followed Will throughout his career and this album is just the icing on the cake, Best of luck to him, keep those hits coming!! Enjoy!! xxx
