These scales are well worth the investment. They came highly recommended by a friend and I haven't been disappointed. The energy saver device has never been a problem for me. I always set the counter to zero before adding a new ingredient and if I know I am going to take some time eg. because of sifting flour, I just keep an eye on the weight so that I will know how much extra to add should the scales automatically switch off. My friend did warn me that when the batteries run out there is no prior warning which could be a problem, but I have yet to experience this, (six months after purchase) and as with sifting flour, it shouldn't be a problem if you watch what you are doing and ensure you have spare batteries handy. These scales and I believe all Salter electronic scales will shut off automatically after 1 minute with a zero display and 3 minutes if the weight displayed remains unchanged for 3 minutes. While sifting flower with a slowly changing display they shut off after 1 minute... It appears that the weight change is too gradual for them to cope with. I was told by Salter over the phone to sift the flower separately and then add it. So, having purchased these expensive scales, we have to change the way we cook and have more washing up to do. Also, if you have already added half of your next ingredient, DO NOT answer the phone, the door or deal with anything else that will take more than 3 minutes, otherwise, you have no idea how much of the current ingredient ...
