Editorial Review:

Amazon.co.uk Review:
If anybody ever wonders what jazz is all about, knowledgeable souls will always push them towards Kind Of Blue as a starting point. Fair enough; it’s the perfect album, jazz or otherwise. However, as with all things musical, the journey is just as interesting as the destination, and Miles’ journey begins properly with "‘Round About Midnight". The story goes that at the ‘55 Newport Jazz Festival, a newly heroin-free Davis jammed the title track on stage and resurrected his career in the course of one song.

The original LP is rightly praised--Miles is simply a joy to hear, as is his band (his greatest?) including John Coltrane and Philly Joe Jones. Remastered, it sound even more awe-inspiring; have 50 year old recordings ever sounded so vitally modern? But it’s the extras that will cause jubilation - the recording of Round Midnight from Newport, plus a set from early ’56 with the same quintet on the album. Needless to say they are a treasure trove of performances, including a brief interview with Miles himself. Even if you own the original album, it’s worth buying again for these bonus bits. If you don’t, count yourself lucky and begin your jazz odyssey here. --Thom Allott

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Excellent
The eponymous track is an amazing "blue" and soothing piece.

This record is very good on the whole.

Not much more to say.

A Miles Davis classic if not a Jazz Classic.
