Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - in the beginning.....
...there was this EP. And a fantastic EP it was too. Sure, 1 or 2 of the tracks aren't amazing, but the original version of 'No Cars Go' (better than the later album version IMO) and the astonishingly good pairing of 'Headlights Look Like Diamonds' and 'Vampire/Forest Fire' (Best Arcade Fire track ever IMO) lift the EP up from 'good' to 'excellent'

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - Shows the band's potential
First off I have to say that Arcade Fire are one of my favourite bands ever but this EP really doesn't compare to Funeral and Neon Bible. I got this EP after I had already heard Funeral, so maybe I would have looked at it differently if it has of been the other way around.

Well anyway to the review. This EP clearly shows the band's potential, there is nothing amazing here (compared to their debut where the majority of tracks were) but 4 of the 7 tracks are great, those being "Old Flame", "No Cars Go", "Headlights Look Like Diamonds" and "Vampire/Forest Fire". "The Woodlands National Anthem" and "My Heart is an Apple" are also good solid songs, the low-point of the album is in "I'm Sleeping In A Submarine", although an okay song ... Read More:

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - woooooooo
Upon first listen you may well get a bit freaked out. I thought it sounded like the whole thing had been dreamt up and created on a rainy Sunday afternoon, but after a while I decided that rainy Sunday afternoons are probably just as creative a time as any other. Some bits do get quite weird, but it's all delightful weirdness, the kind I've come to expect and love from the Arcade Fire. The lyrics are very interesting, with even a few swearwords, Regine features quite a lot, which is always welcome, and there are beautiful, stirring tunes in here. All in all it's a bit different to both Funeral and Neon Bible, but somehow also fits right in with their style, and is a fascinating collection of some earlier songs.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - grab all the arcade fire you can
im not so crazy that i would say you should grab every ep or bits n bobs release by every good band but when you consider how good funeral and neon bible are you'd have to admit arcade are in a rich rich vein of form and likewise this ep doesnt disappoint, its quintessential arcade and thus essential kit, if you dont like arcade then ur obviously a bit crazy but if you do then youd be crazy not to grab as much as you can coz there ace but more importantly they r consistent and exercise a1 quality control

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - In the beginning
It's hard to believe that one of the hottest new indie rock bands first debuted with an unknown EP. The first collection of the Arcade Fire's music -- self-released at their concerts in 2003 -- is now being rereleased, letting fans see the sprawling splendor of their earliest work.

Don't expect just an extension of their full-length debut "Funeral," though. This EP was recorded two years and several personal upheavals before their full-length debut, so it has a very different sound -- the sound of a lush, melancholy band who is figuring out their musical style.

It starts off on a high note with "Old Flame," before stumbling slightly with a mellow, meandering rocker with Rgine Chassagne's eerie vocals taking the lead. ... Read More:
