- Adobe Premiere Elements 4 Very poor
Just installed this on my brand new High Spec PC (Dual Core E6850, 2Mb Ram, 1Tb disc space - 2x 500Gb, GeForce 8500 500Mb graphics card, and running XP - not Vista with all its problems). All drivers up to date. Tried capturing from a brand new Sony mini DV Camcorder (nothing complicated), and the "Get Media" Screen froze! Can't even get off the ground! At least the dreaded Pinnacle Studio with all its vast array of bugs could do that.
Simplicty it is NOT. Adobe just do not understand usability. Even Pinnacle get that right. There were NO instructions in the documentation, Online or in the instruction book supplied concerning capture essentials - it is just listed and it is assumed that it is obvious. Having had significant problems with Photoshop and Premiere Elements I have decided that I don't like adobe products, and neither does my computer. Premiere 2 has problems loading avi files that load in all my other applications including Ulead Studio 8. It also cops out when trying to burn DVDs stating that it is "running short of memory" but on a high spec 1Gbyte machine with no other applications open! I don't think so. So whilst I try to sort these ongoing problems out I have returned to Ulead 8 and that's what I suggest you do. Buy Ulead, it's not as pretty but does the job. Remember Amazon will not refund opened software packages.

Leaves many of its competitors far behind particularly Pinnacle. A very stable package with many professional features, a crash is a rarity seldom experienced. There is little to choose between PE version 2 and the later PE version 3. If you are paying a discounted price for PE 2I wouldn't go for the latest although it does have a number of features missing from PE 2 and if you are going to be involved with HD editing it is a must but otherwise I would base my decision on price rather than anything else.

Adobe Premiere Elements 2.0 is an excellent tool for the home DVD editor. The user interface is clean and uncluttered. I found the timeline and editing functions very intuitive and only occasionally had to resort to the online help for guidance. The whole DVD editing process goes on within a single window with multiple sub-panes. It all works very well. I did have a slight problem with thumbnail views of folders containing MPEG files (crashed the software), but I put this down to insufficient spare disk space... see my minimum spec comments, below.

As with any PC-based video editing, you must make sure you have *at*least* the minimum spec PC, ideally considerably better. These days that's not too difficult, given the falling price ... Read More:

Expensive for what it contains, I found that premiere elements had an overcomplicated interface for what is essentially a consumer product. I wouldn't recommend this for professional work as there were problems with the playback and trying to get edited fottage back onto mini d.v. tape for archive purposes was a nightmare and resulted in footage that was full of gaps and poor quality. There is limeted effects and you cant combine them either. I was dissapointed but then im used to avid express.
