Editorial Review:

Product Description:
NETGEAR's WGXB102 gives you the ability to have wireless Internet access originate from any power outlet in the home, with no visible cables. Receive Wireless Internet Access from any Power Outlet in Your Home: As home networking continues to spread and evolve at rapid speed, some users find that their wireless router does not reach all corners of their home, or that they would like to have their wireless network originate from a point of their choosing, rather than be tethered to the point where the Internet enters their home. Other users would rather have a wireless network where no product is on the floor, and no cables are visible at all. The WGXB102 allows the user to have their wireless network originate from the middle of their home, or from even the furthest extremity, with no cables visible. The kit consists of the XE102 Wall-Plugged Ethernet bridge and a WGX102 54 Mbps Wall-Plugged Wireless Range Extender. The XE102 connects to an existing wired or wireless router from any vendor, and the WGX102 can be plugged into any electrical outlet to create an area of wireless access. Novel: Plug the XE102 into a wired or wireless router from any vendor, and then plug the WGX102 into any power outlet at your desired location to provide wireless access where desired. Attractive: A new wall-plugged form factor allows the user to have a full wireless network without any visible Ethernet cables, and without any floor or desk space occupied. The sleek platinum casing blends well into any home décor.

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - Nightmare to set up, but does the job eventually.
Take note of those who say that the written instructions are useless. In fact, they're worse than useless, they're plain misleading. You do need to use the installer utility on the disc (sorry Mac users - I have both Macs and PC's on my network, but had to resort to the PC for setting this thing up), and even then I ran into problems. I followed the instructions and headed to http://192.168.0.101 to set up a secure connection... only problem, that was the incorrect location. So I had internet (sporadically), but it was insecure, and the Netgear box fought with my router over who my computers should talk to, even in parts of the house where my router had the stronger signal.
Eventually I sought out advice on the Netgear forum and downloaded ... Read More:

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - Good, once I finally got it working
First point: This product only works "out of the box" if you have no security set up on your wireless network. All the reviews saying things like "I just plugged it in and it worked" are coming from people who have never bothered to alter the default settings on their networks, so we should all stand outside their houses and use the free internet access! :-)

Second point: I spent ages failing to get this thing to work, and I consider myself reasonably knowledgeable about networking. It worked fine if I disabled all the security on my wireless network and went back to all the default Netgear settings (SSID etc), but I was unable to access the extender's Web UI for setting up the security settings to match my existing network. Setting a fixed ... Read More:

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Superb piece of kit and working straight out of the box!
Well, what can I say? Literally just plugged them in, logged my kids Wii into the - previously unavailable - network, and we are all very happy!

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Worked straight away
Having spent a lot of time (researching and re-positioning my router) and money (ugprading from a Netgear DG834 to WNR834) trying to get my new internet radio to work I finally plugged for these. They worked a treat straight out the box (albeit I had a Netgear router already and I had to remove all the security I had applied temporarily so that the extenders and my router could work together). I live in a Victorian semi with thick walls and had not been able to receive any signal outside of my living room and hallway. These have solved the problem. I had read reviews about concerns with some parts of my house being on a different loop for electricity wiring but this does not appear to have caused any problems. The reason I write this review is that ... Read More:

Rating: 1 out of 5 stars - Dont bother
A complete nightmare to set up. I am good with PCs and bought this as I have other netgear equipment. I tried to set up both secured and unsecured networks with no luck.
I made a one hour call to support in India, with no luck. They kept telling me totally different settings to those in the instructions.
I spent several more hours and telephone calls with no luck.
Eventually I sent the units back to the supplier and luckily they were kind enought to give me a refund.
