- It does what it says on the box
I use this router for Virgin Media cable Broadband - it's connected to my Virgin modem and it works fine. I gave it four stars because the installation CD that comes with this router is uterly useless.
Don't bother using it - it doesn't work properly and it WILL NOT make the installation easier.

Instead just type 192.168.1.1 in the adress bar in your internet browser to access the router's settings.

Before you do this:

1. Turn the modem off.
2. Connect router to modem.
3. Connect computer to router via ethernet cable.
4. Turn the modem on and wait for the lights to stop flashing, then turn the router on, and finally the PC.

I've had a WRT 54GL for 12 months and it has run flawlessly.

My only complaint is the fiddly setting up of MAC address filtering (that limits access to specific PCs). This requires you find out and type in the 12 character MAC address for each PC. Using the MAC address stuck to the bottom of my machine didn't work - turns out my machine has two MAC addresses.

The solution is to pull up the command prompt window and type "getmac" (without quotes). That will give you several MAC addresses and you can feed all these to the Linksys and it will be happy since one of these will be the one it wants.

Netgear, in my experience a less reliable router, has a better interface for MAC filtering. It shows you the MAC ... Read More:

Had it up and running in 20 minutes on Virgin Cable. Set up was easy to follow, and I did not encounter any difficulty.
I've been using it constantly over the past few months without any issues.
Connected to it are the following:
4 desktop PCs (2 are wireless - 2 using Ethernet cable) 2 Laptops (wireless) 1 Xbox (Ethernet cable), I PS3 (wireless) and 1 wireless internet radio. I know it's a lot, but I have a family the size of The Waltons!!.

I am on Virgin's 10Mb broadband. The average speed I get on the ethernet wired PCs is 9.5Mb and on the wireless Laptops I get 6.5Mb which is great.

Since installing over 4 months ago I've not had any problems with this router at home. It provides uninterrupted wireless and enables me to use the laptop anywhere in the house. A good bit of kit!

Having just bought 2 new computers for the household we bought this wireless router having done quite a bit of research. It looked as if it was going to be easy to set up. It didn't work first time so we tried probably about six or seven times, looking at online help etc trying to get it to work. Eventually, at close to midnight, we decided to call the helpline, who talked us through setting up the router with our original pc and then once that was set up they made sure that both our new laptop and pc were working wirelessly too. All in about 20 minutes! So if it doesn't work first time - ASK FOR HELP!
