I also bought this scanner after looking at many other reviews. It's a very good -sturdy, compact & with a decent case and leads. I'll use it to scan & collate a collection of thousands of 35m slides - yes, time consuming. I've tested it with a few good ones (Ektachrome 25 using tripod, etc)and found some useful info - the quick scan software gives slightly dull results and is really just for snapshots but OK and could be used with any selectable resolution and other software to enhance them. The Silverfast software loaded fine on my modern, but basic, laptop & Windows XP. It is overcomplicated but has an auto-enhance button which works very well. Thankfully I chose to ignore the other reviewer of this product as they are clearly reviewing the software that comes with the scanner and not the hardware itself. I have installed Silverfast on my Windows XP machines without any issues. If you want to use Windows Vista then as far as I know, it works, but Vista is a possibly the worst operating system I've ever had the misfortune to use and if there are issues, they're probably Vista issues, not Plustek's. You've been warned!
Anyway, back to the scanner. I scanned a few films using the Silverfast software with great results. However, it's not exactly intuitive and it can sometimes be a struggle to get consistent results as there is far too much twiddling to be done. I read the review of this ... Read More:

Firstly I can not fault the supplier as it came immediately and was as described.

The problems start as soon as you try to register the product with the manufacturer. Additional CD's are supplied that do not have serial numbers and require countless visits to the web site to register and obtain new serial numbers. Failure to do this only allows you to use the item in demo - reduced mode.

After two hours of emails, countless reboots it eventually accepted it was registered. ( windows Vista 32 ) It then went into a series of starting several copies of the same programme, refusing to scan and some of the most confusing software I have seen in 20+ years of dealing with computers.
