In a nutshell:
The first major Japanese action game hits the Xbox 360 as you face down thousands of warriors at once with just a sword, a few special moves and some of the most outrageous graphics ever seen in a console game.

The lowdown:
With the Xbox 360 still not a proven success in Japan, Microsoft are always looking for new games to appeal to an oriental audience. Taking its cue from the massively successful Dynasty Warriors series this game pits seven different characters against whole armies of hundreds of warriors at a time. Depth of gameplay is not rely a forte here but the game does makes some important improvements to the basic formula with more aggressive enemy artificial intelligence and the ability to control allied troops. Much of the actual combat involves just jabbing madly at the controller but the awe-inspiring imagery this provokes is generally enough to help you forget how shallow it all is.

Most exciting moment:
The entire raison d'être for this game is its stunning battle effects and magic attacks. A simple swish of your sword cuts giant rainbow coloured swathes through the enemy as you juggle them in the air and smash them to the ground. Power up a special attack though and you’re treated to a gigantic fireworks show of flying bodies and crackling magic.

Since you ask:
Although the game is developed by Korean team Phantagram, most famous for the Kingdom Under Fire series, the game has been overseen by legendary Japanese producer Tetsuya Mizuguchi who has been responsible for classics such as Space Channel 5, Rez and Lumines.

The bottom line:
Not the stand out game you may have been hoping for, but still a fun action game.

N3, Ninety Nine Nights... first impressions were awesome. Being hit with the graphics and scale and overall presentation for the first time is a truely awesome experience. I didn't put the game down 'til i'd finished with the first character (out of 6 or 7) Imphyy, and so I proceeded to play as character 2, Aspharr. I quickly lost interest... moved onto chacter 3, interest went further away from me.

The problem with the two characters after imphy is that after their combos they stand still and sort of pose for a second, during this time enemys will strike, this gets very frustrating.

The game (after Imphyy) does have a few major problems. The boss', as mentioned by other reviewers, are rediculously unbalenced... blocking ... Read More:

I openned the box placed the disc
and for the last month thats all thats been played
Beautiful, satisfying and amazing even after a month
now I usually dont go for SF fighting games
but beating hundreds upon hundreds of alsorts in one go
is so much fun, never came across a game like it
I'm sure I will always go back to this game

downside if there has to be, supose maybe a place to
practice the moves you learn, although you can do this
in game play

Upside well basically thats all it is 'that good' well
worth the pennies I spent

made me happy to go Xbox360 from Xbox rather than the PS3

If you love your button mashing action games then this will hold some interest for you. The graphics are pretty good for an older game, and the game play is ok. It manages to pack a load of enemies on screen at once which is pretty impressive. The set up is straight forward with each character you play having their part of the story to tell. The problem is that it all gets a bit tedious after a short time. Another major annoyance is that some of the missions are quite lengthy with no save points in the middle. Many a time I had reached the end boss and lost, then had to start the mission from the start. VERY ANNOYING!!

To round it off, if button mashing mayhem is not your thing then this is best avoided. Otherwise, I do think that it deserves ... Read More:

this game is far better than some of the highly rated games that have come out in the last few weeks this game has some bad reviews on the net so i got it not expecting much but was really impressed

- Ultimate fun, with but a few gripes
This is one hell of a game. The character animation is good the action is intense and even to sound effects are good. There are some gripes, most notably the lack of save points or check points within some of the larger levels, this means that when your get to the high powered bosses at the end and they totally slaughter you and your quite pathetic gaurd (who seem to just throw them selves on the opponents swords - even archers go into mellee instead of shooting people) you have to start right at the begining going through the unskipable cut scenes. This brings up another grip, the cut scens though well animated are poorly voiced and always seem to show the characters out of breath and tired.
