- Does what it claims
I use mine as a common file server in our 100mbps ethernet network at home for variously one to three computers, depending on which of them is awake or connected.
It does not mind what OS is used by a connected computer, so makes common file access simple and intuitive, since it just appears as another drive in the usual list.
I've never touched the USB port so cannot comment on that.
It allows for sections to be password protected by individual users, and these appear as individual drives on the list.
I've set it to go into low power or sleep mode after a few minutes of inactivity, and it then takes a second or so to wake up when accessed, otherwise the transfer speed is limited by the network.

I have had this unit for about 18 months now. Never put a foot wrong so I would recommend it. Although I believe other NAS drives on the market are a little quicker. I stream mp3s, pics and video off it via a PC to my xbox 360 and Roku soundbridge without any problems. But there are NAS available now such as Buffalo link station live which has its own media server, therefore no need to have a pc on to stream media to upnp devices.
