- A must for psychology students
I came across this film by accident on a freeview channel when it was halfway through and had to wait until it came round again to watch the first half! I was so taken with it that I immediately bought a copy to show to my students. I teach psychology evening classes at a number of local colleges.

It works at a number of levels - first, that ideas formulated in the west can work across cultures. Second, that the underlying principle of Psychodynamic theory, that what happens to us as children determines how we turn out as adults, is brilliantly illustrated by this film.

I didn't think this film would be very good a first glance, despite this i still bought this film; and i'm so glad it did. The film had all the realism of a live -action drama and you could really feel for the main character and in some ways relate to how her past family life was and how we all reminisce to our childhood memories. It is a treat to watch. Recommend for all ghibli fans.

This film is a great insight into Japanese life.

I'm currently studying Japanese at university and i'm a reasonably low level. This film is great help because the language is pretty uncomplicated.

There is not an option of watching this film in English so if you can't do subbed films, either learn or don't buy this one.

- Not my cup of tea
This is one of those stories of nostalgia about a woman who spends a hoilday on a farm in Japan. Set in the 80s and the story unfolds in a series of flash backs. Its a nice, heart warming story if you like that kind of thing, not really the kind of thing I'm interested in.

- Studio Ghibli's worst film
I am a huge fan of Studio Ghibli's work but i felt so strongly about this one i had to write a review. I struggled to watch this film and had to turn it off 45 minutes in. I found the plot and the characters boring. I just could not relate to the main character. The characters were not well developed and the animation was very basic. IT WAS JUST SO DULL. This film gives studio ghibli a bad name so if you want to see a film of this genre watch 'HOWLS MOVING CASTLE'or 'PRINCESS MONONOKE' dont waste your time with this tripe!
