- Disappointing - could have been so good..........
Unfortunately this was a very disappointing purchase. On the plus side it is well made, looks good and was a doddle to connect physically, but on the minus side it never actually worked as it should have. The software was difficult to install - I was left wondering if it had just ground to a halt or had completed and not told me. Several attempts at installing the software later and I still had a drive I was unable to use properly. I say properly as I could write data to it, but could not read/access data from it, including user manuals and other preloaded items that I wanted to view. I will admit that I didn't actually speak to Buffalo themselves - they may have had a simple fix to my problem, but I was working on the basis that it should have ... Read More:

A bit disappointed with this. I bought it primarily as a media server for my PS3. I'm an iPod owner and all my music is in m4a (AAC) format and I've successfully been sharing it off the PC using TVersity (Buffalo take note - this is an excellent piece of software. It works and it's free). But I quite fancied the idea of sharing my media without the need to have the PC on all the time. The other benefits like having another disk to use for backups, a print server, an FTP server, web access were all big plus points. I've just spent an entire afternoon battling with the Buffalo LinkStation and it just fails completely as a media server. It does serve some folders...not all...merely some. Basic set up of this unit was simple, but I didn't have time to test the more advanced features as it failed within 48 hours of being turned on!
Error light and continuous beeping, horrible clicking noise, no way to recover (and I tried!).
Have sent it back to Amazon for a refund.
Prompt and good customer service from Amazon, but a dissapointing product.

- Two succesive failed units - clearly still issues with the LS Live.
After reading recent positive reviews, which seemed to say that all the problems with the Buffalo LinkStation Live were a thing of the past, I went ahead with it. This seems to have been a mistake, and I've given up on Buffalo after having two units die on me in exactly the same manner within the first couple of weeks. These were errors for which I could find no explanation in the manual.
To Amazon's credit both the first replacement, and the eventual refund, were fast and painless.

So, decided to buy one based on the more recent reviews.Obviously I got the old batch. First one was in emergency mode, so thats gone back. my second one was cool till i put stuff on it, and then it decided to die, and on reboot decided to beep a lot and do nothing.so that goes back to. but i wont buy another, in the short time it did work i found it slow, clunky and i dont think id trust it with data. shame, it looks nice but just doesnt perform.
