Editorial Review:

Amazon.co.uk Review:
Anyone that heard British singer/songwriter Tom Baxter’s superb 2004 debut album Feather and Stone, will have marked him down as a consummate talent and inevitable chart-botherer. But while Baxter’s obvious skills garnered a heap of critical reviews, he somehow failed to penetrate the mainstream. The same fate seems unlikely to befall Skybound, Baxter’s sophomore effort and an album that more than makes good on his early promises. Combining his soulful, mesmerising voice with understated guitar and piano work and some deft songwriting, Skybound is more a ‘concept’ album than its predecessor, in that it loosely charts the journey from boy to man. As before Baxter fuses elements of jazz and blues with compelling results, adding rhythmic double bass and orchestral accompaniments that create a mellifluous and sophisticated aura. There are some affecting Spanish touches too, such as the Andalucian flourishes on the title track and the flamenco undertones of "Tell Her Today". While the ballads here--"Better" for example-–can tend towards the schmaltzy, Baxter balances these moments with darker material like the fabulously moody, tempo-changing "Icarus Wings". It’s a solid second album that, just like the first, has "bright future" written all over it. --Danny McKenna

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Highly recommended album
This is wonderful - I bought it on the back of one of the Amazon recommendations (you know - other customers bought this when they bought that type of thing).
I love Damien Rice, Tom MaCrae and Nick Drake. This album is in danger of replacing all others as my favourite. On my second playing in a row, love the feeling of it, soooo mellow, oral chocolate.
Seriously considering using "Better" as my wedding anthem next year; yes, I know it's soppy and sentimental, but it did just make me cry.
Looking forward to getting "Feather and Stone" in the next day or so.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Not Bad for a Suffolk Lad
The more you get into this album the more you realise that it has been exquisitely put together with songs about love and hope.

My only reservation about Baxter is his rather high pitched falsetto voice but there is no denying the poetical feel to the lyrics. This is rock music for the intelligent set. I have an interest in Baxter's work as he comes from Bungay in Suffolk - a town I covered as a young newspaper reporter back in the 1970s.

There is a jazz feel to many of the songs and there will be obvious comparisons with the voice of Jeff Buckley. Baxter doesn't quite have the tonal range of his American counterpart but he always writes literate songs within his vocal range. I have seen him live and he produces a ... Read More:

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - star for the future, a marvel
well i was quite nervous about listening to toms second album as allot of writers seem to struggle with the composure of their second. lets say i was never dissappointed from the opening track 'a night like this' to the excellence of crowd pleaser 'better' it was always going to be a cd worth the wait.
this artist had made people stand up and take note of his sheer brilliance. my fav track on the album is 'skybound' the vocals sound, excuse the cheesiness of this but tom has the voice of an angel, see him live and you will understand what i mean. this album came out in jan 08 and i would def say its a rare gem found in the opening of the music worlds upcoming artists.
if you dont already own, buy his first album 'feather and stone', ... Read More:

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Tom Baxter
Superb album and was lucky enough to see him playing live in Nottingham recently. If you get the opportunity to see him don't miss it, you won't be disappointed!..

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Get the whole picture
I came across Mr Baxter in 2004 when I was lucky enough to catch 'don't let go' on a radio station somewhere and bought Feather and Stone on the strength of that. I loved some of the tracks, but the production was a little too smooth and I'm afraid that I eventually shelved the album and noted him in my mind as a good, but second rate Jeff Buckley. Then, in 2007, my partner and I had a civil ceremony. While I was searching for "songs to walk into the room to" I came across a live version of 'Light me up' on YouTube (the last song on Skybound). This was the song we chose for our ceremony, and it re-ignited my long forgotten interest in Tom. So, I bought Skybound. In hindsight, I now know that I was still suffering under the opinion I formed from ... Read More:
