Editorial Review:

Amazon.co.uk Review:
A daffy, adorable, and very funny celebration of DIY spirit, Be Kind Rewind stars Mos Def (The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy) as Mike, a clerk at a failing video store in a rundown New Jersey neighborhood. When his friend Jerry (Jack Black), who's been magnetised in a power station accident, wipes all of the videotapes blank, the two of them decide to recreate the movies themselves rather than face the store's owner (Danny Glover).

The pure charm of Be Kind Rewind can't be captured in that spare plot synopsis. The blend of the movie's great cast (which also includes Mia Farrow, Melonie Diaz of American Son, and Sigourney Weaver) and pitch-perfect writing and direction from writer-director Michel Gondry (director of Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, writer-director of The Science of Sleep) culminates in a truly delightful movie--sweet without being saccharine, richly comic without irony or sarcasm (which, given the presence of Black, is surprising), sentimental without losing sight of the hard edges of life. Mos Def turns in a standout performance, deeply sympathetic without a moment of grandstanding. An absolutely winning film. --Bret Fetzer

Average Rating: out of 5 stars

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - creative and funny.
Quite simply this is a very original, creative and funny film and as such is a refreshing break from most American comedy. Michel Gondry is a very special director who relishes quirky ideas and creative visual effects that are usually achieved using everyday, mundane items. The visual creativity and comic whit in this film is endearing and everyone I know who has seen it really enjoyed it. I find it hard to understand how people couldn't enjoy this film.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - a tad over hyped
this is a mix of black comedy and people falling over its moody but its light hearted i genuinely think alot of different ideas went in and one sloppy film came out but..........

Thats not to say its rubbish its funny its a nice story altho they have new films as if they were old and you cant really work out when its set bit mad.

Jack Black is funny i didn't even know mod def could act and danny glover the same as in every film he is in

but even tho this film has many faults i still find myself laughing and re watching so there is something really good here even if it is hidden in a pile of bad ideas

well worth checking out if you like indie comedies that can just laugh at big budget titles

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - Something lacking
The films starts off well, with much promise of quirkiness and laughs and unusual storyline, but somehow about half way through it turns into a sentimental tribute to the likes of "cinema paradiso" or "it's a wonderful life". Altogether there seemed to be a lack of conviction to it despite the good acting and star cast. Compared to Gondry's previous films, this movie feels like it has something missing and could have been much better.

Rating: 2 out of 5 stars - Why are there so many films about cretins?
The end of this film is DREADful. In fact the whole thing is pretty garbage.

Why? Because I feel like it was trendy for a while to come out with films about morons (and I am growing tired of them!!!).

Napoleon Dynamite was a legendary film, as was Little Miss sunshine. I have no issue with dorks. But lots of films (and Good Lord look at MTV at the moment! The bands dress like some sort of trendy science nerds) seem to not quite nail it. Little miss Sunshine was about wierdos!- A guy who never spoke, a little girl who was mental and a manic depressant. Sure this makes for interesting content but a balance of normality provides the necessary contrast. Some films now do not provide this.

What is going on!? ... Read More:

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - very unique
This very much reminds me of a Cohen brothers film. It`s very unique and thought provoking and full of laughs.
