- NOT ANOTHER RE-ISSUE !
I am a fan of Ultravox and have all there albums as they were a great Pop band in there day. But does the world really need another 'Definitive' issue ? in the Dictionary Definitive mean's Final doesn't it ?. I won't be replacing my single disc copy with this issue as good as it might be. I wonder how many more issues we will see in 2009 ? making this one as obsolete as my copy. I'm not a Synic but this just seems a way to make yet more money out of the willing fan.

If you have not bought this album on CD, get this now. Buy tickets to see them in concert in 2009 and listen to it every week until you know each track inside out.

If Ultravox do not start each gig with Astradyne I'll eat my hat. This is, if not the most commercially attractive piece of work they ever did, it is probably their difinitive track. This one set the standard.

But, then came Vienna. A complete and utter masterpeice. This is one of the greatest pieces of "pop" music ever.

Having got to know each track intimitately, give the album a break for a few weeks and then go back to it. Skip to Sleepwalk, turn up the volume full blast and let it rip! This will get your blood pumping and you'll be begging ... Read More:

I remember the first time I heard this album on good old vinyl. Technology has moved on and when I listen to it now on this remastered edition I think you hear it how you were supposed to back in 1980. Turn the volume up on western promise and be prepared to be blown away. Every track is outstanding and the extra tracks are well hearing.

Well this has always been my favourite album of all time, and the remastered version does not disappoint - it's been cleaned up and beefed up and its now really clear, even sounds good on my ipod - I can hear things going on that I've never heard before. The packaging is stylish and some new photos in the booklet finish it off beautifully.

Seems that when labels decide to remaster albums sometimes there could a quick buck to be had by record labels, having purchased the original vinyl version 1980 and the first release of the cd back in the 90's seems that the cd version was a tad better on all tracks of my "nimbus" pressed cd of this classic cd. All tracks on this album suffer from tape hiss when played loud and you do get used to it, but its the music that counts. Vienna has a warmth about it and is not cold or bland like some synth bands of the time. Enjoy the album for what it is, a piece of new romantic pop with a time and place in musical history.
