Books : Around Rome with Kids (Fodor's Around Rome with Kids)

Rating: - A great guidebook for kids of all ages!
Having just returned from a three day trip to Rome with my two chidren (aged 5 & 9)I can recommend this book with only a few smallreservations.

This has to be one of the most inspirational guidebooks I have read. Most are full of facts about the history of the place you are visiting or the people that lived there. This book only tells you the things you really want to know. My children loved being told the story about the girl who married a man who built a fountain for her only to move back home and cement up her windows when he turned out to be a gambler and crouching on the floor of the Panthenon to see the perspective change as the floor slopes away to the edges. The book is small enough to fit into a pocket and so can be easily taken to all the sites you want to visit. It has the added bonus of suggesting good places to eat near each site.

The downside of this book is that it does not contain a map and as some of the suggested places are not on the usual tourist trail they can be hard to find. The book contains 60 suggestions of places to vist, listed alphabetically in Italian. This can make it hard to find what you are looking for. We felt that not including the Spanih steps was a major error as it is a great place for photos and the children enjoyed racing each other to the top but maybe it didn't need to be included as we found it!
