Rating: - The Alchemist - it's not big and it's not clever!
I couldn't agree more with Fiona Mclean. 'a lot of hooha about nothing'. Brilliant. If you are wierd then here's to wierdness! I found it a load of pretentious old tosh and felt like the author was speaking to me as a reader as though I only had half a brain. Never one to leave a book half-read, I struggled bravely on, but I'm afraid I felt like I'd waded through mud with my wellies on! Oh dear oh dear. By the way, I absolutely loved Jonathon Livingstone Seagull, and find comparisons quite frankly a bit of a cheek. Had I written J.L.S I would be highly insulted! Save your money and go and do something shallow. It'll do you good.

Thank the stars I did not buy this book. It was given to me by someone who said it would "inspire and fulfill me and help me to realise my dream".......! I discovered that my dream was to finish this book before the next millenium. This book basically tells the story of a young boy who goes on a voyage of discovery to find/fulfill his dream.

This book really did not inspire me at all. It was a lot of hoohaa for nothing. Maybe I'm wierd but I really did not get the message and the story just wasn't entertaining.

TO FULLY APPRECIATE THIS FABLE YOU NEED TO KNOW HOW TO SEEK OUT 'YOUR MESSAGE' IN THE TEXT. IF YOU ARE SEARCHING FOR MEANING IN YOUR LIFE OR LOOKING FOR AN ANSWER TO SOMETHING THEN YOU WILL MOST CERTAINLY FIND IT IN THIS BOOK THOUGH YOU WILL HAVE TO BE ALERT AND OBSERVANT. IT IS ALSO A GREAT STORY.WORDS ARE MULTI DIMENSIONAL AND FLEXIBLE AND THE INTERPRETATION IS ALWAYS DEPENDANT UPON THE READER/LISTENER.IF YOU ARE WILLING TO SEEK THEN YOU WILL FIND!
THIS RATES AS ONE OF MY MOST TREASURED BOOKS THAT I WILL KEEP IN MY LIBARY ALWAYS.

Rating: - The Alchemist
One of the best books I have read. This book simply brings together a wonderful adventure about life, love, dreams and treasures. A quick and compelling read and certainly one I will read again. I feel this book is genius overall and the book I would liked to have written. Simplicity, teaching and adventure all in one.

Rating: - A lot less than meets the eye
Having just read the masterpiece Don Quixote, I thought I would try something modern. What a let down. This book is just a load of mystical garbage and can only be 'life enhancing' to those who don't have a life. Mercifully it was only a short book and the first three quarters mostly describes a journey which is mildly diverting. Towards the end the spirituality is laid on thick with a trowel. This book takes itself so seriously yet it has shades of Star Wars, Wizard of Oz and Kung Fu but with none of the wit and invention of the aforementioned, well the first two anyway.
