Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - A surprising delight
I was persuaded to read this book by my grandma as my usual read is a crime or thriller novel, but once I started this book I could not put it down. Although the story is incredibly sad it is a must read for all ages and a real eye-opener into the hardships faced by women in less fortunate situations than ourselves. A truly moving book.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Warning
Read this book at your peril, anything you pick up afterwards will not live up to it.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Still good but author getting repetitive
If you haven't read "The Kite Runner" then I would recommend this book. If you have read it then I'd wait a good a good 18 months before tearing into this one. This novel is very similar to its predecessor in many ways. The troublesome history of Afghanistan, the unfaltering spirit of its people and the brutality of the Taliban are common themes. The friendship of two women as opposed to two boys is all that differs. That been said the writing is captivating and you cannot but be tugged along on the emotional roller coaster of the characters and country. I know you should write about what you know about but would like to see Hosseini try something new. Maybe tell us a bit more about the life of an Afghan immigrant in America as hinted at in the end of his first novel.

Rating: 1 out of 5 stars - Not the worst book I've read
This is not the worst book I've read but it's close to it. The two female leads, Mariam and Laila, are cardboard cutouts and interchangeable, nothing to distinguish one from the other. It will be left to the scriptwriters to flesh them out. The story is clearly written with a film in mind, with mindless violent scenes repeated monotonously throughout. I skipped page after page after page without losing one pulse of the plot.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Even better than last
Have just finished this book and feel so sad at leaving these people. The characters were so real and the situations so horrific that i wanted to keep them beside me all the time. Please read this book its absolutely stunning, what more can i say.
