Books : A Quiet Belief in Angels

I finished this book earlier this week and couldn't beleive what a fabulous story it isand it has shot to the top of my all-time favourite reads.
From page one I was drawn into the world of Joseph Vaughan,laughed and cried with him.
At times,when reading , my jaw just dropped, due to totally unexpected events.
The style of writing by RJ Ellory is just beautiful, he has a great knowledge of small-town America and New York, so I was amazed to discover that he was born and bred in Birmingham,England - just like me!!
I have been raving about the book to all my family and friends and can't rate it highly enough.
The characters,the settings and indeed, the whole story ,will stay with me forever.

Rating: - So So
I enjoyed it but only 3 stars as the book is after all a who dunnit. I worked it out very early on which must be a first for me and I spent the rest of the book hoping I was wrong. I wasn't.

Rating: - Stunning!
This is the first book I have read by R.J. Ellory, upon completion I ordered another of his titles. A beautifully written novel, the detail of surroundings and essence of character are portrayed in such vivid and meaningful ways that you cannot help but fall into the landscape. This novel, classified as crime fiction, is however, concentrated more fully on the impact events have on the main characters and less emphasis placed on the detail of the events themselves. A colourful page-turner with a winding plot and an autobiographical approach - highly recommended reading.

Yet another 5 star novel from Mr Ellory. Each one so beautifully written and so different. AQBIA sucks you in to the life of Joseph, a tragically empathetic character whose path in life is chosen for him by events that occur during his childhood.
Exquisite in its style and compelling in its nature - with a leading man who's stubborn to the core and possesses so much integrity, it's a novel to be savoured and read in one sitting.
A definite recommendation, as are Ellory's other novels.
