Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Wonderful!

This is one of those albums that richly deserves a place in your collection, even if you don't play it very often. When you do, you're reminded of gentler times, when things weren't *quite* so frenetic. One can kick back and joyfully immerse ones self in it's beauty.

I rather prefer this outing to Tubular Bells overall, while acknowledging the groundbreaking success of this former album.

My original LP of Ommadawn sounds very "small" in comarison to the CD, which allows the mix to fly, free of the "analogue nasties" that most commercial LP's of the time were afflicted with. It's years since I heard the "Box Set" mix, which I understand is more subtle and "sympathetic".

DEFINITELY RECOMMENDED without hesitation!

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Oldfield's Best, but Faulty Remaster.
When I first heard Ommadawn (from the Gaelic word "amadan" meaning "fool" or "idiot"), back in 1975 it changed the way I looked at music. It cannot be stated enough that this is Oldfield's crowning glory.

However, the remaster (MIKECD4) is lacking. Listing to other remasters from the same period, it is clear that they didn't spend nearly enough time on this. There is little improvement from the original CD release (CDV 2043). Also, there is a rather annoying click at 11:11 into Part 2.

Hopefully, they will return to this and give it the attention it deserves.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Out of this world
This is a piece of music that surely deserves 10 stars.
It is music that Mike Oldfield was put on this Earth to create.
After 30 years of listening, to my ears it is still wholly
original, breathtaking, moving and, music to die for.
Packed with melody and surprise. The final 7-8 minutes of Part 1
is an ultra-brilliant jewel in the Crown of music.
Go on treat yourself

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Close to Perfection
Ommadawn is the pinnacle of Mike Oldfield’s first trilogy of albums (Tubular Bells, Hergest Ridge and Ommadawn). The blend of electric guitars, Northumbrian bagpipes, recorders, Pan pipes and African drums creates one of the most accomplished pieces of instrumental work ever created. This album is a must for all music lovers who find time to properly listen to music and rivals Pink Floyd’s Echoes or Wagner’s Liebestod from Tristan and Isolde in its climatic finish.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - 30 years on.
I was into Mike Oldfield at the start (age is like the tide uncontrolable). Tonight a sat down and listened to Ommadawn on my newish Hi-Fi. I was completely satisfied. The man is a genius. Of course there are bits that I would like to see removed or changed. Of course there are bits that are sublimely beautiful. And that is how I remember it from the early seventies. It has enriched my life for all these years as does much of his work. Roll over Beethoven, well maybe not but I bet in 150 years time Mike Oldfield will be judged in the classical mode as are the old masters today. Buy it, don't hesitate, buy it.
