Music : A Lo Cubano

Rating: - One of the best albums ever.
I discovered this album a little late, about a year ago but it has affected me in a way that few albums ever have.

On my first few listens I thought there were some killer tracks and the album as a whole was good but the more I have listened to it, every track has grown on me. One reviewer described this as the 'perfect chill out album' and I couldn't agree less, every part of this album from the infectious beats to the soulful singing and the powerful rap wakes up every part of me and makes me grin from ear to ear.

I don't speak Spanish, so I don't understand what they are singing about, but when the music is this good, who cares!

Stand out tracks are Represent, Mistica, 537 Cuba and Connexion but every track is fantastic, I like it more, after 1 year of it being my most played album, than I do when I first heard it. How many albums can you say that about?

Rating: - Fantastic mix of melodies and rap, of fun and raw emotion.
Absolutely perfect chill-out CD for fans of rap with a more traditional Cuban spin. The lyrics, melodies and mix are all of a high standard.Los Orishas sounds quite alot like the best of the current Parisian rap artists, but their influences seem refreshingly more diverse.

Rating: - chevere, que chevere!!!
Brilliant album. This is massive in Spain and Latin America right now, and will be released in USA later this month, when I expect it will really take off. Excellent mix of salsa and hip-hop. I would highly recommend this album. This kind of rap/salsa crossover is really popular in Cuba right now.

Rating: - My favourite album of 2000 by far
It captures both sides of my '99 Cuban visit - the traditional music that you hear on every street corner in Habana vieja, son melodies rich and sometimes almost haunting (as in the title track), backing up the rap that voices the frustrations of many of the young Cubans that I met. The music seethes with vitality. I love salsa, but this a truer reflection of where young Cubans are at. And it rocks.

Rating: - The gods of cuban hip hop!
Like P18 and Sergent Garcia, Orishas is an other good cuban group with a fresh style! A lo Cubano is a great mixture of french hip hop and caribian music. A sure shot even if you are not any IAM or Buena Vista Social Club fan! Let yourself be seduced by the Orishas!
