Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - GodLike
There aren't any words yet to describe the music on this album. True beauty and passion, pure and raw. Everybody I know that has heard this loves it, and WHEN YOU BUY IT you will understand. (like the subliminal message!?)Seriously, get this, listen to it, dream it, remember it, live your life to it. Along with XTRMNTR & 100 Broken Windows, this is one of the essential albums of the year 2000. You will dig it out in thirty years and thank God that you bought it. But get ready to cry when they appear on Jools Holland and go to perform the full version of Sven-G-Englar and Jools decides to "boogie woogie" all over it. You know he will.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Experimental Icelanders make "A Good Start"
Sigur Ros' first UK release, Agaetis Byrjun, is most definitely a landmark as far as my CD collection is concerned. Translating as "A Good Start", this album far excels its humble title. From the atmospheric, lengthy first track (unsurprisingly I forget the name) one realises this is going to be something rather special. To put it bluntly; if you are looking for a band with a new, fresh, moving and experimental sound, your search is over. For the sake of music: buy it, buy it now. You can make up your own words.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Soundscapes and solitude from heaven
It's quite simple really...if I was sitting in an igloo on the antarctic with just my walkman for company.....I would no longer feel the cold. Its been a long time since a band made the combination of solitude and well-being feel positively normal. Sigur Ros may only be a bunch of thermal wearing youngsters, but as this album goes to prove, there way beyond maturity....their positively silent.

Rating: 2 out of 5 stars - Lost in translation?
Intrigued by press articles and reviews, and with eclectic international tastes I sat through this entire album waiting patiently for it to spark into life to be totally disappointed. OK, things improve a little in places but each track unfolds on essentially predictable lines, atmospheric beginning giving way to tremulous vocals and plodding rhythms before a woolly and entirely unconvincing climax. I may not know what he is singing about-the fact is I never cared. Devoid of emotion-neither truly gloomy or uplifting, without musical excitement i was left like Iceland. Cold
