Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - MUSIC OF THE STARS.
I heard this music when I was sitting in a coffee shop on a cold, rainy afternoon and suddenly beautiful sounds seem to come out of the walls all around me. I sat there, entranced and finally asked what it was and the owner brought me the cover of Agaetis Byrjun.
I hadn't even heard of Sigur Ros, although I'd heard people talk about the beauty of Icelandic music.

So I bought the CD from amazon.

What an absolute joy! To me, the title track is the best, but they're all so beautiful and no matter how tired you may feel at the end of the day, you put this on, and sit and listen and there comes this ambience of beauty. It's crystals and ice and harmony and all the things that make life good.

Buy it - you need it!

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - More than just an album
Agaetis Byrjun isn't just an album; it's a haunting, uplifting, spiritual, melodical religious experience at the gates of the Church of Music. It's as far removed from today's radio music as is possible. It should be a new definition in the Oxford English Dictionary for "sublime".

Genius.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Orchestral Bliss!
I bought this album as a kind of experiment! I thought they sounded like an interesting kind of band, so I gave them a go and took a huge risk.
It is phenomenal!! The beautifully harmonised strings section and gorgeous (Icelandic)vocal line, twinned with a relaxed tempo is experimental to say the least. And then I realised you really can't compare this with ANYTHING else!
This album really is well worth the buy! If I could, I'd give Agaetis Byrjun 6 out of 5!

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Heartbreakingly beautiful
Ive no idea what the words mean. But listen to it and you soar away on a rollercoaster of emotion at how exquisite these songs are, how haunting, how poetic, and how absolutely beautiful.
Simply perfection.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - It means "A Good Start" I believe.
Be it the orchestral breakdown in The Beatles' "A Day In The Life" or the sudden key change and tempo shift in "Bohemian Rhapsody", certain songs have moments that raise their status from "popular" to "absolute classic". These are the moments that warrant head-shaking appreciation or ambitious contemporary dance routines. These are the moments that make the songs truly great.
I can say with the upmost honesty and without a single hint of hyperbole or irony that every single track on Agaetis Byrjun features one of these moments. There's the sudden wall of sound created by playing guitar with a cello bow on Svehn G-Englar, the sound of an electric guitar being plugged in and - heavens above - fireworks in Staralfur.
The end result is not an album, but a "moment". Take everything you've ever loved about music, multiply it by four thousand, and you won't even come close to the levels of aural pleasure reached when listening to this masterpiece.
