THANK YOU, MY GEOGRAPHY TEACHER!

A story: in the summer of 2002, an English guy went to Iceland. He loved it. The clean air, the ethereal mists, the twisted lave and the gushing geysirs. When he returned, his geography teacher (who had also been to Iceland) had several conversations with him. One of which was about a new and popular icelandic band called "Sigur Ros"
The pupil went away and downloaded some songs from their site. Eventually, one Christams, he received a CD.

And what a CD! This album is perfect to either listen to or to back work or play. You can either listen carefully to appreciate the subtle works of pure musical skill, or lounge in the gentle yet heavy atmosphere it creates.

The songs range from the mellow (Hjardad) to the happy (Olsen Olsen) but they all have Sigur-ros' haunting, layered, multi-coloured signature.

If you're looking for an experimental, gentle, chilling album, you have no right to NOT purchase this - enjoy.

If you're stressed out, in need of some calming or just simply wana chill out, that answer is simple - listen to this album. Svefn G Englar is one of the most amazing and emotional songs i've heard which sends me somewhere else. I couldn't agree with all the other reviews more, all that's left to do now is see them live! Peace

Rating: - why i was given ears.....
i dont understand what he's singing

i dont know what instrument is playing....

but i've never known any music like this....

i thought radiohead were experimental... until i heard this iceland gem....

i'm blow away to the point where i cant move when this cd plays, every note goes through my body like a bullet, i'm humbled by the vast knowledge that this group can offer just by one track.
this cd breaks me and manages to rebuild me inside out

and i may sound dramatic, i may be hyping up this album alot...
understand i dont usually buy male artists, i gave up on male frounted groups (with the exception of grandaddy, spaklehorse and radiohead...) but my god this blew me away,

his voice is at times almost an instrument of it's own,

i recomend this cd to any music lover, to anyone who is open to interpatation and has an imagination...
get lost in this cd
and then track down those other equally amazing haunting albums...

like mini films in your mind this cd washes over me leaving tiny lil shellfish in my soul

Rating: - Icelandic 4 piece step beyond acceptable musical pretention
Sigur Ros have crossed the threshold of musical pretention that we all believed had been jettisoned with the soon to be tragic deaths of prog rockers Genesis and Pink Floyd with the creation of the 'Hopelandic' language, JRR Tolkien himself would be proud. I don't speak Hopelandic but then again I don't speak Icelandic, the two undoubtedly being related, so I shouldn't hold it against them. This album is a beautiful, metaphorical sojourn through life and spirit and ofcourse the weather beaten wastes of that mystical, volcanic kingdom of Iceland (or Hopeland if you will). Buy this album, it will make seventy-two minutes of your life better, it may even send you to a dreamy, ethereal sleep where you can fly.
