Every once in a while a band comes along who are truly different, who have created their own style. Sigur Ros are one of those bands, indeed a rare occurence these days. This album is difficult to categorize, is it 'ambient', 'chilled jazz', 'rock', or just chilled? Whatever, it is truly excellent. With it's mix of bowed guitar, falsetto vocals and walls of sound, the result is shear pleasure and relaxation for the listener.
If you like real music, be it classical or rock, buy this record.
If you like 'chilled anything', buy this record.
If you've turned on your T.V. recently and seen one of those crass popstar programmes, you need to buy this record.

Rating: - can music be translucent
I found my self here, with my ear phones on listening to Sigur Ros, via, gus gus, mum, boards of Canada, what a journey it has been, perhpas I've reached the zenith too early in my musical quest.

I can't pronounce any of the words on the cd case, I only know the songs have titles because of of Amazon and this adds to the beauty of this music, a sort of translucent drift of the mind. The music floats about with mutterings, probbly in Icelandic, but as someone has already written, that I can understand what's being said percieves the music to be even more beautiful. It conjours up visions of bright, bright winters days in high ceiling rooms and cold wooden floors.

This is definitely music for the self, to be absorbed is easy as pressing play on what ever listening device you have.

If you can take time for yourself and take that time alone this masterpiece is a must.

Rating: - The most breathtaking piece of music you'll ever hear!
Agaetis Byrjun is most possibly the most amazing album I have ever heard. Every track makes you tingle with emotion, and the purity and beauty of the wall of noise created will blow you away.
This album is the perfect mix of raw, violin- bow enhanced guitar, mind blowing vocals and a plethora of crazed, beautiful sounds. Culminating in a perfect state of blissful energy.

If your a fan of the more experimental radiohead or simply a person who enjoys beautiful music you should not be without this album. Listen to Svefn-G-Englar (track 2) and let your mind drift away into a blissful state of pure ecstasy.

Rating: - Breathtaking
This CD is awesome in its scope - wrapped in a cloak of sound, simple melodies breath light out to the waiting day.
As if Pink Floyd, Radiohead and Cocteau Twins had one day met for coffee and decided to do it all again properly.

I am sure that the guys behind this fantastic record will loathe and detest the pink floyd comparison, but if you are to describe such an album like this words like early and verve, pink and floyd, radiohead and plus and tunes all could be used, but wouldn't even come close.

I can't begin to do justice to the staggering majesty inherent in this record, all tracks build, sway and fold, and leap in a fluid and uterly unforced way, are they songs or are they improvisational pieces. Who knows and frankly who cares. All that matters is that this sounds unlike anything I have ever heard.

Awsome. Some albums you hear and it's like you understand where they are coming from, oasis, blur etc obvious examples, I have no idea which planet this came from ( is iceland populated entirely by aliens??? ) but I'd love to visit.
