Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Brilliant music but oh dear- the lyrics...
I can't imagine that the songsmiths behind these songs - such as Bernard Butler - were responsible for the, at time, risible lyrics on this album. Funny - Duffy "co wrote" all the songs- which I suspect means the (what should be much easier) task of writing lyrics. Butler, who managed to get "whithersoever" into one of his songs with McAlmont must cringe... (though the worst lyrics come on Warwick Avenue - just so clunky)

I don't normally listen to lyrics, but when they are this bad, they spoil the enjoyment. And lyrics aside, Duffy's cowriters have produced a wonderful album, all more down tempo than Mercy. Not a duff track (musically) - my family and I have different favourites - my bias is towards a couple of Butler's numbers - Serious and the closer Distant Dreamer (the longest track which could have been longer so beautiful it was crafted). Try out his albums (with the aforementioned McAlmont) for other such works of art.

Duffy - give up on lyric writing for your next effort, or get some english lessons!

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - 5 star rating... absolutely BRILLIANT!!
After hearing 'mercy' i was immediately attracted to the sound of Duffy but I came with reservations, 'a song that good???, cant have more than one on an album'. I decided to purchase the cd and was pleasantly suprised. Each song holds its own, songs like 'delayed devotion', 'serious', 'warwick avenue' and 'stepping stone' are great sing-alongs. The album is filled with great emotion and i believe the words and organisation of each song represent themselves greatly. It is honestly one of the best albums ive heard in a long time, not just one song but 10!!, the only negative is that the album could have included a few more songs but regardless its worth it :)
Talent.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Duffy has issued the best UK soul/blues album since Back to Black
Having received this as a random birthday present,it lay around for a day or two before actually hitting the CD player. But then was never off. Duffy has a great retro feel for soul and blues, with superb guitar work by Bernard Butler (ex Suede). A short bittersweet album that hits the spot and leaves you wanting more. This girl is going to fly in the USA. Wake up Amy Winehouse. Some people are lying in the gutter, whilst others are looking at the stars.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Fantastic Welsh Talent
Thank god we've now got some decent new Welsh talent, this album is fantastic i can't stop listening to it. I think my neighbours wouldn't agree after hearing it all the time :0)

My favourite track is Stepping Stone, the words to the song are amazing because nearly everyone has been through that, i know i have.

Rating: 2 out of 5 stars - 2 good tracks but the rest sounds like poor 60s girl band music
I bought the album on the strength of Rockferry. However most of the album sounds like the poorer tracks on 60s girl band compilations I have heard. If you like watching 'Heartbeat' on TV than this is the album for you.
