Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - A great debut
This is a fantastic debut album. Duffy has a beautiful voice and she really reminds me of Dusty Springfield. It hasn't been out of my cd player since I got it a fortnight ago! I'm looking forward to hearing some more stuff from her soon.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - TERRIFIC DEBUT ALBUM
For her first album Duffy has recorded a great set of songs, I enjoyed her cd so much I played it three times in a row.

She is Duffy, not Dusty and never claimed to be. Infact in a recent newspaper article whilst she feels flattered she does not feel worthy of the comparison and I feel it's unfair for people to compare her to one of our Legends - let her be herself.

Here's to your next album Duffy, well done!

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - DUFFY IS NOT DUFF!
Why am I seeing comments like "empty lyrics" and "unemotional" being used to describe Duffy and her music? She is not claiming to be Sandie Shaw or Dusty Springfield or any other 60s singer. She is Duffy. She has an amazing voice; the songs are sung with true emotion and tracks like Stepping Stone give you goosebumps. She is truly talented and will go a long way and I see the Rockferry CD being the first in a long line of CDs from this lovely Welsh lady.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Great voice, duff lyrics
Great debut album, sublime voice, great production and Mercy is such an addictive song. Only complaint is overall the lyrics are pretty average, sometimes sound clumsy and lack depth. But hey, with that voice she'd make the football scores sound good!

Rating: 2 out of 5 stars - More Duff than Duffy
OK, I don't mean to be unkind but let's get one thing straight from the outset...any comparison between this young lady's voice and that of
the late, great Dusty Springfield (or even Sandie Shaw's for that matter) is completely crackers. Bonkers. Bat's in the belfry barmy.

As a performer of great soul, R&B, and gospel songs Dusty was (and just about remains) peerless. A historically groundbreaking artist, she possessed a remarkably powerful voice with a capacity for extradordinary dynamic and tonal flexibility.

It was her ability as an INTERPRETER of great songs, however, which truly set her apart and ahead of the rest.

In Duffy we are presented with a performer of barely moderate talent whose voice carries along the ten songs on this album in a uniformly pedestrian manner. It's a nose-and-throat voice of limited range and colour, shakey at the top and weak at the bottom and devoid of any significant emotional power. By track three it really does begin to grate.

A shame, as there really are some very good songs here.

Bernard Butler's retrochic production is commendable. The musical ensemble confident and slick. The artwork cool and sassy.

...but let's see through this for what it really is...yet another young female performer with her eye on the main chance in an industry niche already oversaturated with mediocre performers.

How much longer before the bubble bursts ?
