Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Not That Kind.....
When I first heard Duffy's voice I was intrigued and thought"oh another 60s imitator",I heard Mercy several times, bought the CD single, and then Warwick Avenue and Stepping Stone(which I liked),and then Rockferry-and then I was converted. Rockferry is my favourite song on this album,it makes me think of the sea, deserted and lonely beaches under sad stormy skies, wistful loss, and Duffy's haunting soul voice soaring above it all.
She is the female 60s soul singer for the Noughties, and has firmly stamped her identity on that genre in the last 2 months.

These songs mirror Duffy's own emotional experiences. Her voice wraps itself around the songs,it is many-sided like a prism and can't fail to
ensnare the listener.

This album should be added to everyone's collection in 2008.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Definitely not duff
Excuse the pun but I was so prepared not to like this album as 'Mercy' was just constantly on the radio, in shops etc.
But when I actually listened to it , it is just amazing, there are so many old influences that make it a pleasure such as Northern soul, Dusty, Bill Withers and the production on it is slick to say the least.
She doesn't have the best voice, neither does Madonna ,but her soul really gets down under your skin and at the risk of sounding like Les McQueen, they are real songs with 'craftsmanship'.
Shame there are only 10 songs though.
Can;t wait to see where she takes her music next...

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - A right hoot
The princess of Disney is back with a whole new look and name. People were skeptical to say the least when Hillary Duff went off claiming she'd be back with a ''new sound and image''. Ladies and gentlemen, here she is.

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - Have Mercy !
I saw her on Jools.
Thats bad.
I saw Amy there.
Sea Sick Steve there.
In fact living in France I should listen to Radio 2 online but dont. So being lazy I watch Jools and let him shoo me in to nouvelle musique.
I make it to from sofa to computer and press a few keys.
Voila. In three days instant Amazon happiness.
Duffy blew me away.
Mercy is the track of the year.
It has everything in it for a 50 something like me.
It would stand up in any decade including its roots being in the 60s.
Love Stepping Stone.
Then the album seems to fade away.
The more I listen to some tracks the more pretentious they come over as.
I was all over it and couldnt wait to buy but now I cut through the hype.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Love it, Love it, Love it!!
It's years since I've bought a CD but after finding myself repeatedly humming 'Mercy' and unable to get it out of my head after hearing it on the car radio I was tempted. Hearing 'Warwick Avenue' (again on the car radio) did it for me and the CD was sold!

There's not one track that I don't think is fantastic and 'Distant Dreamer' sends shivers up the back of my neck.

Have to say it's totally unlike anything else in my CD collection and it is a CD I'll be playing again and again (much to everyone else in my houses annoyance I'm sure!)
