This is my first review of any kind and I must point out from the outset that I have limited photographic knowledge, so my opinion of this camera may matter little to you.
I was very please to pick this camera up for £79.99, an awesome price I thought at the time. The camera appears to be very well made with a good screen, fast start-up time and an intuitive menu system driven by a row and column of touch sensitive buttons. Movie mode was fine too, with the ability to zoom while shooting a bonus. It understandably picked up the noise of the zoom lens motor when driven during filming, however this was not intrusive on the recording. The real let down for me was the picture quality and focus ability at short distances or in poor light, particularly when compared to my old Canon ixus 55. I carried out quite a lot of comparison shots with the two camera's, both indoors and out, landscape to macro shots. Mostly these shots were taken in full auto mode, although I did make some manual changes to try and improve things. The outcome of these direct comparisons was that the older 5mp Canon consistently out-performed the nv30, displayed superior picture resolution (5mp beats 8mp - possibly due to a better or physically bigger CCD in the Ixus?), superior colour reproduction, exposure balance, macro performance and auto focus ability, especially at short range.
All in all, I decided to send it back to Amazon as it didn't meet my basic expectations on picture quality, even for £80. I'd rather pay twice as much and be happy with my point and shoot camera, than have a nice looking camera that takes poor quality snaps.

Rating: - Just goes to show higher Megapixel don't mean better!
I bought this camera due to it's unbelievable price tag (£79.99). Great value for money.

Ignore what the reviews below say (the ones who gave only 3 stars) - That was obviously made on Amazon's behalf, never Samsung.

Nowadays 10.0-12.0MP are the preferred standards for digital camera. But from past experience they don't exactly offer anything far different. Samsung NV30 has 8.0MP which is more than adequate for a great quality A3 size printing.

The design is practically perfect - the User Interface, albeit frustrating at the first time, but actually more rewarding when you get use to it after 15 minutes. The 2 dials on the top acts as an off-screen setting which makes navigation a lot simpler and smoother. There is an extra button to preview your photos - which means less hassle on trying to find the mode on screen - similar to the case of previous Kodak cameras. The black case with a hint of deep violet is a nice change from predominantly silver cameras.

Operation is extremely fast! Turn it on and shoot...simplicity at it's best. It's even faster than Sony's Cybershot!

This camera is also packed with great features - more so than it's predecessors, the likes of NV11, NV11 and NV20. The features range from beginners to advanced photographers. The high resolution screen is the perfect replacement for a viewfinder (the NV series as far as I am aware do not have it). It also doesn't cause massive lags when moving.

Rating: - Error on page 4 of Quick Start Guide
Page 4 of Quick Start Guide lists an included accessory as "Camera Status Lamp".

The item is in fact a Wrist Strap, but the error is confusing some purchasers, who are seeking an accessory lamp in the carton with the camera.

The "Camera Status Lamp" is, in fact a small LED on the back of the camera.

Rating: - Superb camera
Unlike the last 2 reviews I do actually own this camera. Why do people post 3 star comments and Amazon complaints under a product review?
Whilst I understand you might not be happy with Amazon marketing, that is hardly the camera's fault! Send your complaints to Amazon and leave the the product reviews for exactly that 'PRODUCT REVIEWS'
To re-addrsss the balance, this camera is a pure work of art. It is small enough to fit in your pocket whilst still being big enough to operate with ease. It really does have every feature you can wish for and has to be one of the best looking camera's on the market.
The screen is clear and bright even in low light conditions as it changes automaticly to suit the conditions.
Samsung's NV control system is different to most, however it is very easy to learn and once mastered it is very fast to operate.
It would take all day to list the features on this camera, it really does have everything you would expect for a camera of this quality and a lot more too.
There really is no excuse for people having out of focus shots, I have taken over 400 photo's in the last month and every shot has been crisp and clear. If you think a shot is too soft then just adjust the sharpness, if its to cool the raise the colour.
The NV30 is 8mb, but unlike many camera's on the market it has true 8mb quality. I have blown up 5mb images from this camera to A4 size prints and they look amazing. These days you can't rely on just pixel count to justify quality. In fact if you had a 12mb pixel camera with a poor lens you might as well have a 3mb camera.
On a final note, this camera has one of the fastest operating system's that I have tried. The lens moves incredibly fast and it really is a joy to use. Press the on button and the camera is ready to shoot within 1 sec. No more hanging around for the camera to start up, take your shot press the off button again and it all shuts down again.
Just done a speed test with flash. You can power up, focus, take shot (with flash) and power down to off all in 6 secs flat. It used to take my old Sony twice as long just to start up!
