Rating: - A varied and variable effort
The Web were a slightly ironical British progressive rock band and featured the vocal talents of American John L. Watson. It features a mixture of originals written by various members of the group and a few covers of songs that were hits for other artists done in what is best described as a club/lounge style. The main strengths of the album is the groups skin-tight playing - as an instrumental unit there were seven players plus lead vocalist Watson. Many of the tracks feature long solos on Flute or Saxophone in a very jazzy style before going back to the main song.

There are a few exceptions to this on the shorter, slower tracks which gives the album a nice variety, such as the wondrous Afro 'Kilimanjaro' plus a ballad with 'Til I Come Home Again Once More'. The albums' highlight (for me) is the medley of 'Tobacco Road/ America', which is done in a very rhythmic bop style, again very jazzy and featuring some exceptional flute playing. Some may find the vocals of John L. Watson a bit off-putting as he sings in an almost cabaret style, but it is done in an ironical way which makes it work. The album would definitely appeal to fans of jazzy progressive music and only has one or two 'filler' tracks.
