Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - A gentle, breezy grower.
If you are looking for a heavy dose of testosterone-fuelled rock and roll from this Seattle 5-piece, you've come to the wrong place.

Folky west-coast melodies, sweet harmonies, light voices singing a capella... that's what you've got with this Fleet Foxes album. They describe it themselves as "baroque harmonic pop". However you categorise it, it's a very long way from the 'grunge' sound that their hometown is still (even after all these years) known for. They are far from a pushover though... they stole the show at this years SXSW festival and have had our music critics praising their live shows before they had released this fantastic album. Although theirs is not your typical "biggest band in the world" type of sound, Fleet Foxes are almost guaranteed to be namechecked in interviews by the Thom Yorke's, Chris Martin's and Win Butler's of this world.

There are many highpoints of this first full-length release, but "White Winter Hymnal", which strangely but effectively starts with the band singing 'in the round', the ridiculously catchy pop of "He Doesn't Know Why", the angelic harmonies of "Oliver James" and the uplifting "Quiet Houses" are all standouts.

A great summer record. A fantastic debut album.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - I like Fleet Foxes, They "r" good.
I went camping with a few friend's about 4 Monthes ago, and like the fool that i am, i left my cd's in the car, which happened to be oh say, 3 Miles from where we set up the tent.
So, we were forced to resort to the radio. Sitting prostate on the floor of our smoke filled tent, my eyes, redder than a sexually excited baboon's behind, widened upon hearing the unique, and melodic sound of some band i'd never heard of, playing on radio 2 at 11 in the evening. Immediatly i called for hush amongst the gang and frantically scrawled down the name of the band.
Anecdote over - Fleet Foxes are brilliant, i bought "Sun Giant" as soon as i returned home and couldn't stop listening to it, granted its only 5 songs, so it didn't take long, but still i found it captivating and original, since that day i've been waiting for their self titled full-length album to be released with such anticipation i'm like to burst, the day of release has come and gone and i've only just remembered to get myself into gear and buy it.
Never say no to Fleet Foxes, sure its my opinion that they're great, but you know man..

Rating: 1 out of 5 stars - a big let down
After all the rave newspaper reviews, I was really looking forward to this one; what a disappointment. I thought the harmonies were poor and disguised by loads of reverb. Where are all the melodies we were promised? It sounds made up as they go along. The lyrics are straight out of the sixth form.

This one goes straight to the car boot fair. If you want harmonies, stick to the Beach boys.

Rating: 1 out of 5 stars - Dull, Dull, Dull
I so wanted to like this album but found it extremely wanting. I fail to understand what all the fuss is about. Yes the harmonies are good and the varied use of instruments interesting, but if you are looking for a good tune then go listen to some early Neil Young instead as there aren't any here.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - GOOD GOD!!!!!!
I felt the need to write and add my support to the majority of reviews for this album. God this is good, sometimes an album just comes along and knocks you off your feet and you think what was that. This IS one of those albums, and I mean album, because you have to listen to this as a complete entity and just get washed away in all the different emotions that it conjours up. As near a perfect album as i've ever heard. Just put it on the stereo, lie back and dream.
