Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Fleet Foxes to rule the world (hopefully)
Well, for the last week or so I have been listening to the most wonderful new band. They are called Fleet Foxes and even after this relatively brief time I can say without doubt that I have fallen in love with them.
Think Crosby, Stills & Nash mixed with baroque pop and gospel with a drop of classic folk and you are someway to describing their sound, it really is like nothing I've heard in a long time.
Every track is perfect, drenched in the most gorgeous harmonies and guitar playing, it sounds like it has come from some other world.
With 2008 only half way done I think we have seen album of the year already.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Beautifully haunting
Fleet Foxes is a great album - almost other-wordly at times in terms of its haunting melodies and close harmonies. Although comparisons have been made with Crosby Stills Nash and Young, there are other influences at work here I think. At times, some of the music sounds almost medieval in terms of its use of space between the notes, and the silence that is also used to good effect.

There's probably not a bad track on the album, and at just under 40 minutes it certainly doesn't outstay its welcome - something that's hard to say in today's bonus extra tracks mentality where quantity comes at the expense of quality. A haunting, beautiful album.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - "Peat Sounds"
I can't remember being so beguiled by a piece of music, so much, as I am with this gem of an album. It feels beamed in from another time and place, and yet, absolutely relevant.

The harmonies are what grip you first, simple but effective. The musical layers draw you in and then the audio vistas start to gleam before you...YES, I am enraptured.

Like the Beach Boys have headed up country and found their perfect log cabin

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - best album I've bought for a long time
Took a chance and bought this on the strength of reviews likening them to Beach Boys, Crosby Stills & Nash, Californian Pop etc - was not disappointed! Incredible sound - I was brought up on this type of music and it's great to find a similar sound in 2008. Am playing it all the time and it just gets better!

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - A bit of balance please
Whatever the musical qualities of Fleet Foxes they do not merit the 1 star given by the reviewer below. This is a superb first album which gets better with each listen. Who the hell listens to Crosby, Stills & Nash these days??
